App really lagging like it’s the early 90s

I’ve installed the 2026.6.1 update, and like a previous user indicated, it was fine for a few minutes, then lagged just as badly as before. I really want to use my iPad to journal, and I’ve loved this app for years, but it’s practically unusable now. Hope you come out with a new patch soon!

I’m using an iPhone 13 mini, running iOS 26.3.1 and the newly released DayOne 2026.7, but I sadly have to report that the app is still barely usable, regardless of any of the suggestions in this thread.

I downloaded a device monitor app to monitor the CPU load and as soon as I open DayOne, it spikes to 100% CPU load, explaining the lags and crashes.

I really hope for a fix in the next update.

I have been experiencing this issue as well, when opening the mobile app it lags significantly, and is basically unusable at the moment. It even slows down my device when it’s opened. I hope this is resolved soon, I’ve used Day One for years now.

  • For everyone who’s following this thread, we’re sorry for the trouble.

Our developers are investigating this issue as a priority, and we’ll let you all know when we have an update. Thanks for your patience!

I have updated to 2026.7. It is no better. :-(

Same here. Latest release is again slow and unreliable when opening and typing, on all iOS devices.
And during this crisis, Day One launches an IA assistant that nobody wants. A bold decision.

2026.7 just as bad for me on iPad. Typing is just about impossible, plus when I exit the app my iPad is very slow for a minute or two even when I don’t have any other apps open. I presume the app is hogging CPU power for some reason.

  • Thank you for your patience while we investigated this persistent issue causing typing lag, overheating, and general slowness in Day One for iOS between versions 2026.5 and 2026.7

We had trouble fixing this issue because we were unable to reproduce it at first, so it was difficult to confirm a fix.

We are now in the process of releasing 2026.7.1, which has been tested against affected devices, and we’re confident it will resolve this issue.

Please update to 2026.7.1 as soon as it’s available in the App Store, and let us know if you still experience the same issues after updating.

    Many thanks!

Thank you. I think that has fixed it!

So far so good, latest update seems to have resolved my issues.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, with the latest update, my Day One app is running properly. Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

Confirmed. Ver. 2026.7.1 solved the problem.

  • Unknown's avatar

no, its not fixed🫤my iPhone is ok now. But NOT my iPad

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry, there was a new update. It is working now 👍🏻

  • Unknown's avatar

After installing 2026.7.1 just now seems slightly better but operations as simple as scrolling are still unusably jerky and laggy on iphone 13 mini running iOS 26.4. Nothing like what is was before this issue started. Is this possibly temporary – is there some background process running to update indexes that takes a while to resolve? Don’t understand what the developers changed in January that can’t be rolled back.

(Running new 2026.7.1 on iphone 13 mini, iOS 26.4) I just ran “Network Analyzer Pro” while Day One was running. CPU was running at 70%. I force quit Day One and noted that the Memory usage suddenly dramatically dropped. I suspect there must be a serious memory leak still. After a while, CPU usage dropped to about 10%. Restart Day One and CPU usage goes back to 70%, up to 90%. Kill it again and CPU usage goes back to 10%.

the new pricing stuff put the nail in the coffin for me

Day One, it is very poor service and unacceptable that you let the bugs go on for so long because you weren’t working on maintenance as I heard you were working on new AI features that a lot of us don’t even want. If this happens again, if I can’t use Day One for three weeks, I am unsubscribing. Secondly you didn’t even let me know through this forum that the new version was available. Now it’s working much better, but I am not satisfied. Still thinking of leaving.

some developer is commenting on the Facebook group and saying that the lagging was due to the iOS update which is not true. I believe they were not working on the lagging issue. They were so busy with the new release with the new AI features. It’s really hard to stay with an app that doesn’t work on essential bugs for three weeks.

I’m glad to see a lot of others are having problems with Day One. It’s almost impossible to use at the moment on my iPad with words taking several seconds to appear on screen. It took me a while to find this forum as well, but I see there is an update which might help. There has been no mention of this elsewhere, which is unusual. There is obviously a serious error in the coding somewhere.
