App really lagging like it’s the early 90s
-
App is super slow. I can hardly type in anything, typing is not instantaneous. It’s so frustrating. Using iPhone mini 11. IOS 26.3.1. day one version: 2026.6. Turned phone on and off, uninstalled, reinstalled app, updated the app in the App Store. No other Apps are this slow on my phone. Please fix this before the update in March. This is ridiculous I can hardly use it. It’s been about three days now.

hi, the problem was resolved when I switched to mobile data, but I don’t want to always use my mobile data. This is not a good permanent solution. My Wi-Fi is working fine. Please advise.
-
Thanks. This is a known issue our developers are currently investigating. Thanks for sharing the WiFi workaround. We realise that is not a permanent solution, but while we’re working on fixing this you could potentially enable airplane mode while writing your entry (so you don’t have to use mobile data), and then disable it again once you’ve finished.
Meanwhile we’ll work on getting this fixed as soon as possible. We’ll get back to you when we have an update.
Thanks!

using airplane mode does not speed up it enough. Can you please tell me what other diary I can use in the meantime and then import into Day One when you have fixed the bug? This is exasperating and I’m thinking of ending my subscription.

@milkshakespeedily2636112bee Our developers have some fixes in place for this issue, so it should be resolved before too long.
If airplane mode isn’t helping, another possible improvement would be to create a new journal you can use temporarily, as the lagging is generally worse in journals with many entries.
In the meantime if you want to write elsewhere and import later, you could use plain text import following the format explained here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/import-export/importing-data-from-plain-text/
Other import formats are covered here, but they are mostly designed for importing backups exported from Day One, so probably won’t be practical in this case:
https://dayoneapp.com/guides/settings/importing-data-to-day-one/
Depending on how many entries you make, the simplest option may be to just write them in a plain text editor and then copy/paste them into Day One once this issue is resolved.
Again, sorry for the trouble, and we’ll have it fixed as soon as we can.

staff-donnie, importing using that format is impossible as it is not user friendly at all. That is not a doable workaround for me. It is getting a little bit faster on wifi but still frustrating.
-
I can confirm this. Since the last two updates, writing a journal entry has become an unbearable and clunky experience (I’m on an iPhone XR; it worked perfectly before these last two updates). I hope the team fixes this soon.

We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as possible. At this time, the only workarounds we’re aware of are as described on our Known Issues page:
- Some users have reported that disabling WiFi (or enabling Airplane mode) while writing an entry eliminates the lagging issue.
- Force-quitting and reopening the app may temporarily improve performance.
- Starting a new journal may improve performance (you can move entries back to the original journal once the issue is fixed).
If none of that is helping, you may prefer to use our web app at https://dayone.me/ until the issue is resolved.

@milkshakespeedily2636112bee We haven’t had any other reports of that, but it could be related. What happens when you try to create a new journal? If you can send us diagnostics via the app, it should help to determine the cause of the issue: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-diagnostics/

I still have this lagging input problem even after the latest update (2026.6.1). Very frustrating

The way DayOne has slowed to a crawl on my iPhone has me tearing my hair. You’ve been saying for more than a week that this is about to be resolved. PLEASE, I’m BEGGING you. Fix it!

staff-donnie: the problems I’m having with the app are very sporadic. I am now able to create a new journal. Simple things like scrolling through the days are slow. I tap on the microphone icon three times to dictate and it still doesn’t dictate. I don’t know if it will help to send you a support request for every tiny bug that I encounter. I only hope that you’re really working on maintenance and not spending time creating new features as I heard on Reddit.
-
I am also having this problem since I updated my ios to 26.3.1. I have updated day one to the latest (2026.6.1) and continue to have the issue. Glad to hear there’s a workaround though it’s a shame I’ll have to turn off my WiFi when using the app. Looking forward to a solution!

Unfortunately none of the work arounds I have been presented with help at all. This has been going on for three or four weeks. I didn’t report it until after it was going on for two weeks. I keep hearing we’re fixing it “soon,” but I’m looking into getting another Journal or using free appke journal. Now the transcription is not working. It takes so long for pictures to load when I paste them in. It only transcribes three of the 10 minutes. So I have to import it into an app that transcribe it to me, then copy that and then import it back into Day One. In addition when I first opened it, I can’t even scroll down to entries if I try to scroll it is so slow that it opens up an entry. It’s possible, but it’s my phone, but why is day one giving me the biggest problem? I have tons of pictures in almost every entry. Is that the problem? It never was before. On reddit There’s a discussion about people having problems there as well. By the way, switching off Wi-Fi does not make a difference anymore. I have checked my phone for speed, checking memory, deleting apps. I think Day One is working on the next rollout that will have a lot of AI features so right now it is not putting a lot of time and energy into fixing bugs. I don’t like it how you can’t search your photos in Day One the way you can in the Camera app anyway. Looking forward to some solutions very soon.

I am having this issue to despite having 2026.6.1 installed. The app on my phone has become pretty much unusable. Incidently the last update took hours to download too. Was that just me?
-
As an FYI I wiped clean my iPhone 11 Pro yesterday and then restored via iCloud, still no change with the Day One app. Very slow/laggy for entry, almost unusable.
-
I was really hoping the recent 2026.6.1 update would finally resolve this issue. It seemed fine for a few minutes, but unfortunately, the keyboard lag is still present. The delay is so severe it feels like typing on a faulty Bluetooth keyboard.
Since we rely on Day One to seamlessly capture our thoughts, this constant technical friction is incredibly frustrating and has severely impacted my daily journaling experience over the last few weeks. I absolutely love the app, and in all my years using iOS, I’ve never run into a performance issue quite like this. I’m using an iPhone XR, where the app worked flawlessly before these recent updates. I sincerely hope the development team can track down the root cause and release a proper fix soon
