What functionalities should be added?
-
I’m not sure if this has been brought up as a concise post here, but I think a running list of what users consider “basic / necessary functionality” items should be done.
So, in that regard, please add a reply of what you feel needs attention, should be fixed, updated, etc. -
+3 for Photo Editing – there are several discussions in the Facebook group about being able to edit photos. One person would also like to be able to make collages within the app. I agree, it would be nice to have some basic photo editing features. Also, long press to add a caption to a photo does not work in Android. 😺

The lack of feature for feature support in the MacOS version vs iOS is a pretty big one on the to do list, IMO. Still no audio recording on the Mac, for instance.

Thank you for taking the initiative to create a thread, @canesshapes0u. I’ll keep this thread open to invite community feedback and forward the feedback to our team as they come.

@pamelaamoore, @pgant – Those absolutely should be part of the MacOS version. I never even thought about that. Thank you!
@staff-bluejay – Thank you for doing so! I’m hoping more people will add to this thread.

I don’t really know how to suggest this, but if you’ve kept a journal for a long period of time, you find your journal covers a lot of different ‘eras’ of your life; whether that’s time in an educational institution, years at different workplaces, years at various addresses, relationships, etc. I would like the ability to define ‘eras’ – set a start date and an end date – to then view all entries from those pre-defined periods. In a similar way that tags are displayed on each entry, perhaps eras could be displayed at the base of entries too?

Hi @sunsetdrivea465, thanks for the suggestion! This is actually a great use case for tags, which are already available in Day One.
You can create tags for each era of your life – for example, “University”, “First Job”, “London Years” etc. – and apply them to the relevant entries. Tags appear on each entry and you can filter your entire journal by any tag to see just the entries from that period.
A few tips to get the most out of this:
- You can apply tags to multiple entries at once using bulk edit (long-press an entry in the timeline, then select additional entries)
- Use the Filters feature to view all entries with a specific tag
- Tags can also be combined with other filters like date ranges for even more control
Here are some guides to help you get started:
The one thing tags don’t do is auto-apply based on a date range, so you would need to tag entries yourself. But once tagged, the experience is very close to what you’re describing.
