UI lagging in daily chat

    I’m using Day One on an M1 iPad. When I use daily chat the UI starts to lag if I enter more than two sentences into the chat window. It gets progressively worse as I type more text with each character having a noticeably longer delay to appear on screen after I enter it. By the time I’ve entered four or more sentences I’m typing faster than the words will appear on screen.

    After I hit enter and the chat responds the lag disappears until I type two or more sentences again. This behaviour doesn’t appear anywhere else in the app – latency is fine everywhere else that I’ve seen.

    Thanks for taking the time to report this, and the detail you have provided is really helpful.

    What you are describing, where the Daily Chat input slows down progressively as your message grows and then snaps back to normal after you send, is something we would like to investigate. It sounds like it could be a performance issue specific to the Daily Chat composer on iPad, rather than the general journal-editing lag some users experienced earlier this year (which was fixed in a prior update).

    To help us look into this, could you share a few things?

    1. Your Day One app version (tap Settings in the app, then look for the version number at the bottom).
    2. Your iPadOS version (Settings app on your iPad, General, About).
    3. A diagnostics file from Day One. To send one: open Day One, go to Settings, tap Support, then tap Contact Support and attach the diagnostics file to your reply here.

    It would be best to send that diagnostics file to us directly at dayone.me/support.

    No problem – my app version is 2026.12 (2737). My iPad OS version is 26.5. I’ve sent the diagnostics file via /support. Detailed logging was disabled, if you need me to write for a day or two with the detailed logging on let me know, either via email from support or here.
