UI lagging in daily chat

I’m using Day One on an M1 iPad. When I use daily chat the UI starts to lag if I enter more than two sentences into the chat window. It gets progressively worse as I type more text with each character having a noticeably longer delay to appear on screen after I enter it. By the time I’ve entered four or more sentences I’m typing faster than the words will appear on screen.
After I hit enter and the chat responds the lag disappears until I type two or more sentences again. This behaviour doesn’t appear anywhere else in the app – latency is fine everywhere else that I’ve seen.
