Template Sync

Are the templates supposed to sync between devices? I have had to set up a different template for each of my devices. All of my entries sync fine, but I cannot seem to figure out how to sync the templates.

    Hello 👋

Yes, templates should be syncing between devices.

Without sharing the key with us, is the encryption key present on all devices in the following places?

    • iOS: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key
    • Mac: Day One > Settings > Sync > Advanced > View Encryption Key
    • Android: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key

If not, please use the key to enter on all devices. Then check for templates to be synced.

If the key is present on all devices, may we have you try editing the template(s) slightly to see if that forces them to sync?

We look forward to your reply!

I am having the same problem. My Mac only has a couple of my templates and doesn’t give me the option to add more.

  • Unknown's avatar

I did check for the encryption keys and they are all present.

Thanks, @cpp7qph44j. If you edit the templates slightly, does that force them to sync?

Same problem here. Trying to synch Mac with Android. Encryption keys present, slight changes made to templates. Nothing is working. Please fix this

@stuartcameron779 Thanks for confirming. We will need some more information to dig in deeper.

Would you mind sending the diagnostics from all devices that have Day One installed?  Please put “Attn: Forum post 436” in the subject line.

I had the same issue. After installing Day One on a new Mac yesterday, none of my templates were there.

I edited each template on my iPhone (added a period in each), and only then they all synced to the new laptop.

I am running into the same issue. My templates on macOS are empty whereas I have 22 templates on my iOS device.

When I try to check “Mac: Day One > Settings > Sync > Advanced > View Encryption Key”, the app gets stuck and starts throwing the beach ball. I have force quit the app a couple of times and I am able to reproduce this bug every single time. Could you help?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have the exact same problem as scarletm7, I get the beach ball each time I try to the advanced sync options. Running the latest version of Day One and macOS Ventura 13.4.1

Templates are also not syncing, but that might be solved by the encryption key, if I could access it.

Hello @scarletm7 and @certhiidae. The issue where the app is unresponsive when going to advanced settings will be resolved in our next update (2023.15) on the App Store. We apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Unknown's avatar

The beachball issue is fixed. I had to manually edit the 23 templates on iOS for them to sync on macOS! But I am glad it worked.

Oh my goodness! That sounds tedious. We are glad to hear the beachball issue is fixed.

    Hi

I have the same issue as well. I am useing a PC and Android phone & Tablet. I have the encryption key set up, which syncs all the diary entries. I have created a template on my PC (Web) but it doesn’t seem to want to propagate to my Android. I have created a new template and modified it many times.

    Frustrated

Hi, I’m having the same issue. I’ve created a few new templates on my iPhone 15 Pro, but they won’t sync to my iPad. When I created a template on my iPad it wouldn’t sync to my iPhone either.

I verified that the correct encryption key is present on both devices.

One thing to note is that my iPad Air is a bit old, running DO app version 4.10.2 (623) on iOS 12.5.7. Could this be the reason why the templates won’t sync? New journals and new entries sync just fine between devices, but the templates won’t sync.

Can this be fixed somehow or is this iPad version not supported anymore? Thanks

Fresh install of the Day One App today and this template sync issue persists. Updated to latest version of App on iOS devices yesterday. Latest version of app on everything.

  • Hi @itayatc and @pearcenathan,

Thank you both for sharing your issues with syncing templates on iPad. The development team is aware of this issue and is working on a solution.

In the meantime, a workaround is to edit the template you want to use on your iPad on a different device, such as by adding a punctuation mark. This should force the template to sync over to the iPad.

    Thank you!
