Tags in private/shared journals
-
I have a premium account. I have both shared and private journals. I just noticed that I accidentally tagged a private journal post with a shared journal tag.
I hit a tag on the dropdown menu when creating a new tag for that private post.
It is highlighted within the post in a different color but the same tag title.
I want to know – can the person in my shared journal see my private post that I accidentally tagged by hitting the name of the shared journal tag? It is super embarrassing and I hope they didn’t see. -
I heard from support since I am premium in case anyone wants to know in the future.
Hi there, thanks for reaching out to Day One Support!
If I understand correctly, you accidentally tagged a private journal entry with a tag that was originally created for a shared journal, and you’re concerned whether your shared journal partner could have seen this private entry. Is that right?
Good news – your private entry is completely safe and private! Here’s what happened:
When you tagged your private entry with “cuz,” Day One created a separate, private tag with the same name for your private journal. The color difference you noticed (blue vs pink) confirms this – each journal maintains its own separate set of tags, even when they have identical names.
Your shared journal partner cannot and will not see your private entry because:
– Private journals are completely separate from shared journals
– Tags in private journals are not connected to tags in shared journals, even if they have the same name
– Only entries created directly in a shared journal are visible to shared journal members
– Your private entries remain 100% private to youThe tag system works independently for each journal type. When you use a tag name that exists in a shared journal on a private entry, Day One simply creates a new private tag with that same name – there’s no connection between them.
No damage control needed – your privacy is intact!
