Search functionality seemingly broken across iOS and macOS
-
When attempting to search for entries via keywords (or strings in general that I know to be in the entries), the results consistently exclude entries that I know exist, and that I can find if I scroll through manually to find.
Is there a way to reindex the search by any chance? -
I *just* found the reindexing button and ran it, but it doesn’t seem to have resulted in any improvements at all

What you’re experiencing sounds like a known issue that came with the 2026.13 app update, and there’s a good workaround that should get your search working again.
Here’s what’s happening: the 2026.13 update triggered a full rebuild of Day One’s local search index. For some users, especially those with larger journals, the rebuild can be interrupted when the app moves to the background. Because the app marks the rebuild as complete even when it’s been cut short, recent entries end up missing from search results, even though your data is completely safe.
You were exactly right to try the reindex button. The important thing is making sure the app stays in the foreground for the entire rebuild, so it isn’t interrupted.
On iPhone or iPad: Settings > Advanced > Rebuild Index. Keep Day One open and visible until it finishes. For larger journals, this can take a few minutes.
A permanent fix for this is already in the next app update (2026.15).
