  • Hi @genevieveteetie!

Happy to help you get back into your journal.

The PIN you are stuck on is the app-locking passcode, which is stored only on your device, so it cannot be reset from our side or from the web. There are three ways to get past it on Android:

    1. Keep trying combinations. If you can recall the passcode, open Settings (profile icon, top right) > Passcode and either change or turn it off there.
    2. If you have Fingerprint Unlock turned on, you can clear the passcode with your fingerprint:
      a. Go to Settings (profile icon, top right) > Passcode.
      b. Tap the Passcode toggle to turn it off (do not choose “Change Passcode”).
      c. When the number pad appears, tap the fingerprint icon in the bottom left and authenticate with your fingerprint.
      d. The passcode is now cleared. You can toggle Passcode back on and set a new one.
    3. If neither of those works, you can reinstall the app, but only after confirming your entries are safely backed up to Day One Sync, otherwise you risk losing data:
      a. On a computer, go to dayone.me and sign in with the same account you use in the app. Check “All Entries” to confirm your journals are there.
      b. Once you have confirmed your entries are present (and you have your Encryption Key saved if you use end-to-end encryption), uninstall and reinstall Day One on your Android device.
      c. Open the app, sign back into your account, and let it sync. The passcode prompt will be gone and you can set a new one.

A couple of things that often trip people up: if you do not have fingerprint unlock enabled, option 2 will not be available to you. Also, if the fingerprint icon on the lock screen does not respond when you tap it, let me know, that is something we are aware of and I can point you to the reinstall route instead.

Could you tell me which of the FAQ steps you already tried, and whether you have fingerprint unlock enabled? That will help me point you to the right path.
