Red H3 headline in entry list on Mac
-
I use the H3 red color headline for all my posts.
Marking the headline with H3 is my way to indicate that the post is completely done. It’s the last thing I do.
In the iOS app, when viewing the list on entries the headlines are coloured red.
However, in the Mac app the headlines are white.
I want to request an option for red headlines in the Mac app as well. -
Hmm. That’s odd. I ran Day One (on the Mac) just to check this out and my results are different. For me, I see H3 text as red and H2 text as white.
I don’t have an update pending for Day One, so I assume that I have the latest version installed.
How are you applying the style of the headings? Through one of the menu commands or manually using markdown? (I tried both and got the same result.)

In the posts themselves the H3 headlines are shown as red color, but in the long List of diary entries the headlines are coloured white.
I usually select my headlines and the use the menu command to mark them as H3.
(Tried to attach a screenshot but it seems to be too complicated) -
Ah. I understand now what you were saying. In the timeline view, you want text formatted as H3 to appear in red. I see what you described, although I don’t have Day One on iOS to see the contrasting effect.
Yes, submit a feature request for that. It shouldn’t be too hard for the developers to make that change.
I, too, mark my entries as done (and as incomplete, as applicable). But I use a system emoji at the end of the title text, although this method could as well be used at the end of an H3 heading.
Here’s what my titles look like when the entry is completed:
Pay Bills ✅
This mark is visible in the entry as well as in the timeline view. And it stands out quite well from surrounding text.

Thank you for your answer.
Using emojis could work, but I want my entries to be pretty clean.
One workaround could of course be to add an emoji after the headline as long as my entry is incomplete, and then I remove it when it is completed.
As you say though, it should be a fairly simple thing to make the timeline / list look the same in the desktop app as in iOS.
I hope this post could be considered a feature request. -
