Problem with Apple iOS shortcut
-
I regularly use the iOS Shortcuts app to create and view notes in Day One.
For some time now, I’ve been having problems with the script used to search for notes in Day One: when I try to search for notes with a particular tag, the field in the script’s sheet gets cleared as soon as I start typing the first characters of the tag name.
It happens both on iPhone and iPad (both running the latest version of the system), and it has been happening for several Day One versions.
Do you know if you’re already aware of this issue? If so, do you have any estimate of when a fix might be available?

Hi @rblastra
Thanks for the detailed report, and yes, we are aware of this behavior.
What you are seeing comes from how the iOS Shortcuts app handles its tag input field, not from Day One itself.
Our team reproduced the same field-clearing behavior in a minimal test setup that barely touches Day One at all, which points to a limitation in iOS Shortcuts rather than something we can correct on our side.
We have reported it to Apple, but we do not have a fix or a timeline to share, since the resolution depends on an iOS update from Apple. We already track a related version of this on our Known Issues page, for the case of adding tags while creating an entry through Shortcuts: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/known-issues/
If Apple addresses the underlying Shortcuts behavior in a future iOS release, that should resolve this for you automatically.

Thank you for your response, Staff-reid.
We trust that the new version of iOS 27 will include a solution for this issue.
Have you been able to verify whether the problem has already been resolved in the current beta of the upcoming update?

It’s unfortunate news. Are you sure there isn’t any measure that could be taken on Day One’s side?
It’s striking that the shortcuts created before this problem arose continue to work; however, I can’t edit them, because the tag filters get removed.
