    Hello community,

On the iPad 13″ Pro M5 under iPadOS 26.4.1, the content in the On this Day widget is only displayed in the size small square, but not or only unreliable in the big square. Most of the time the widget is blue and empty. Dayone App is the latest version 2026.7.2 (2722)

    Greetings, Christian

  • The first thing to try: update Day One to version 2026.8, which is now available for iPad. There have been improvements in that release that may resolve the widget issue for you — please try that first and let us know if it helps.

If you’re still seeing the empty widget after updating, a couple of other things are worth trying:

    • Open On This Day in the app (tap the “More” tab → “On This Day”) and let it fully load before closing. This can prompt the widget to refresh.
    • Remove and re-add the large widget — long-press it, tap “Remove Widget,” then add it again via the + button in home screen edit mode.

Dayone is up to date, both solutions unfortunately do not work. Pictures can be seen sporadically, but most of the time not. In the small widget it always goes

  • Hi @agileinquisitively1de5e16cc3

What you’re seeing matches a known issue our engineering team is tracking. The “On This Day” widget has a strict memory limit imposed by iOS/iPadOS (around 30 MB for widget extensions), and when it tries to process photos from past years, larger widget sizes can exceed that limit and fall back to the empty blue state. The small widget works more reliably because it renders fewer and smaller images.

The team is investigating ways to reduce the widget’s memory use, but there isn’t a fix yet. In the meantime, the best workarounds are:

    • Stick with the small “On This Day” widget where possible, since it’s far less likely to run into the memory limit.
    • If the large widget gets stuck blue, opening the “On This Day” section inside the app can sometimes prompt the widget to refresh. It won’t always stick, but it’s worth a try.

To help the engineering team, could you send us a diagnostic bundle from your iPad? That would give us a concrete data point from your iPad to add to the investigation:

    1. In Day One on your iPad, go to Settings > Support > Report a Bug
    2. Include a short note about the widget issue, and a link to this forum thread.

    Thanks!
