No line & paragraph spacing settings in macOS?

According to the help guides, I can adjust the paragraph spacing on macOS by going to Settings > Appearance > and adjusting line or paragraph spacing. But when I go there, this is what I see:

Is there any way to increase the paragraph spacing?

Wow, the image upload doesn’t seem to work. It briefly shows the image, then just a gray box and asks me to upload something. Oh I see, it says “sorry you are not allowed to create posts as this user.” Okay.

  • Sorry, but currently, there are no custom controls for line or paragraph spacing in Day One. We will add this to our feature requests.

Can you elaborate on what it is with the paragraph spacing you are looking to improve?

I’ll chime in with an answer. What I would like to see improved is actually having spacing between paragraphs. Right now, the options are either a single break with spacing that matches every other line (can’t easily see where one ends and the next begins), or we have to use a double break like it’s 1963 and we’re typing on a typewriter.

Just look at our responses here in this forum. See how nice it looks? I hit enter once for this paragraph, and space was added between them. This is what we’d like to see.

Also, for what it’s worth. This is one of two reasons I’m hesitant about coming back and subscribing. Add paragraph spacing and allow us to resize our images, and I’ll once again be a happy and paying customer.

Thanks, @csnyder1582. We appreciate that insight!

This would definitely be in my top-3 feature requests.
Any indication of when it will come?

  • @markrjp We’re still marking down feature requests for this and have added your vote. There is no eta if or when this will be added at this time.

Please add a way to resolve this. 🙏 I frequently need to copy and paste from other (Markdown) sources into Day One, and all the Markdown formatting gets preserved perfectly – except for paragraph boundaries. 😭

The paragraphs just keep visually blurring together, requiring constant manual fixing, which is not sustainable in the long run.

(Ironically, not an issue here in the Day One forums, is it? My three paragraphs here in this post are clearly visually separated – why can’t it be the same in Day One? I did not have to hit the Enter key twice here in order to create that visual separation; nor should we be required to do that in Day One.)

It’s been over two years, I don’t expect this to ever be fixed. I hate it when daily pain points go unresolved.

I managed to find a workaround, at least for the purpose I need, which is pasting from Markdown into Day One so that visual boundaries between paragraphs are preserved.

I will share that solution here later, but it is really convoluted and relying on a third-party intermediate plaintext editor.

It’s truly unfortunate that we are forced to jump through all these hoops to get to the desired outcome, which is just standard Markdown formatting
