New Entries not showing current date/time
-
Just noticed this today. New entries are showing 00:00 and today’s date, ie. Midnight last night. I have to manually change it each time or to click on the “update to current date/time” link.
This is for DayOne for Mac.Thanks.

This is in Dayone for Mac just to be clear.
I’ll click on the “+” button on the top right to add a new entry.
It will then display the time as 00:00 and today’s date in the header.
I then add text or whatever, then click on the date/time at the top of the new entry and select “set to current date/time”.
However, and this is the odd bit, my first entry of the day will have the current time/date. Subsequent ones are at 00:00.
If I could post an image or even a video I’d so so but it looks like I don’t have the option to do that.
ThanksMartin

Hi Martin,
You can upload a short recording showing the steps you take to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar, and then share the link here.

Sorry, don’t use any of those services.
Anyway, what will a video show other than what I’m describing here in this thread? Click on the + button to add a new entry and it shows the current time at 00:00
Please note, this is Dayone for Mac.

More info. I just noticed that the bug is happening if I make an entry with the right pane showing today’s entries. But if the right pane is blank (that is, no day selected to view and only displays the name of the journal) then a new entry comes up with the correct time.
Hope that this makes sense. I’d post screen shots but too much private info would be displayed.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just noticed this on Mac. It’s fine on iOS + iPadOS, but every time I start a new entry on my desktop (without a picture) it defaults to midnight. I thought maybe there was a setting I missed. Did this ever get addressed?

Thanks for the additional detail — I wasn’t able to reproduce this on my end, so it may be version-specific. Could you let us know which version of Day One you’re running on your Mac? You can find it by going to Day One > About Day One in the menu bar. It should show something like “2026.x (XXXX)”.

Hey there @staff-frank – thanks! Uh, looks like 2026.8 (1748) on my end. And just tested again, same issue but with a note. If I start a new entry on a blank day (so I haven’t entered anything yet), it DOES work correctly – posts with the current date / time.
BUT if I hit the plus button on a day that I already have an entry, I get the midnight approach. Same with if I create a new entry, and then delete it (so it looks blank), hitting the plus button is a midnight entry again.

Hi @qrpttvspm7 and @marts57!
Thanks for your patience. I’ve bumped this again to the dev team. We’ll keep you posted once we hear back from them.
