Journal list empty
-
Since updating to the latest version of Day One, my list of journals is empty/blank.
Everything was fine initially and I was able to make a folder to group some journals together. The next day however, I notice there was nothing showing except the folder & the trash.
All of the entries themselves are still there, and display if I click on the folder I made.
This is happening on the MacOS, iOS, & iPadOS versions of the app, though the journal list seems to be populated on the web version.
I’m running the latest (non-beta) versions of all the above. -

Same issue, cannot switch to “all entries” in my macOS. As always, another buggy update. Please FIX IT NOW.
-
-
Me too. Why is there such a bug? In the future, please consider releasing a test version first before the official release.
-
Thanks everyone for your report.
We have reported this issue, and our team is currently looking into it.
We’ll follow up when we have an update to share.
-
Sooner rather than later I hope. It’s making the app -particularly on macOS, very difficult to use and does feel like something that should’ve been picked up in testing before it was released.

Following up on this: we’ve confirmed the cause and want to emphasize that no data has been lost. Your journals and entries are intact on our servers, which is why everything still appears correctly at dayone.me.
While we work on the fix, we can switch off Journal Collections on individual accounts, which restores the full journal list right away. If you’d like us to do that for yours, please reach out at https://dayone.me/support with your Day One account email.
Note that switching it off also hides any Collections you’d created.
@marcbramhill79 @k9ii5j673n @f4yzh685jx @haoshuaimy we’re going to reach out to you through the email you used for your account on this Forum, which may or may not be the same as your Day One account email.
Please keep a lookout for any emails from our support team in your inbox.
@cadazan Thanks for reaching out. We’ll continue to help you via your email.
Thank you all for your patience. We’ll update here when the fix ships.

My journals are fine on my iPhone, but on my iPad all but one of them has disappeared. I have fourteen.
-
Even more concerning, I just looked at my account online and it barely has anything. Some of my journals are completely empty, where there should be hundreds of entries.
-
UPDATE: The entries are back on my iPad but the list still shows only one journal. I guess you are working on a fix.
-
@sarakmiles, glad to hear the entries are back on your iPad. The list still showing only one journal matches the same display issue everyone else in this thread has been seeing after creating a Journal Collection, so that part fits the pattern we’ve confirmed.
For everyone following along: we’ve confirmed the cause is tied to creating a Journal Collection, and no data has been lost. Your journals and entries are still there, even when the list doesn’t show them. We’re continuing to work on a permanent fix. In the meantime, if you’d like your full journal list restored right away, contact us at https://dayone.me/support, and we can disable Journal Collections on your account.

@sarakmiles good question, and the short answer is no, you don’t need to have created a Journal Collection yourself for this to affect you. We’ve since confirmed a related cause where simply having the Journal Collections feature turned on for an account, even without creating a collection, can cause the journal list to go out of sync on iOS and macOS. So it’s very plausible that’s what happened on your iPad, even though you never made one.
That said, what you described about your web account showing far fewer entries, with some journals appearing completely empty, is still different from what we’re seeing in the pattern above. For everyone else in this thread, journals and entries have stayed fully visible on the web app the whole time. Because your report doesn’t match that, I’d really like to check your account directly rather than assume it’s the same thing. Could you contact us at https://dayone.me/support with your Day One account email and a mention of this forum thread? We’ll take a closer look at what’s showing on your account specifically.
