How to disable Markdown
-
I want to use the > symbol to format my lists, but Markdown keeps turning it into a blockquote. I just want to enter plain text instead of having Markdown formatting applied when I don’t want it.
Is there any button or way to disable Markdown feature currently?
If not, could you please add a toggle or way to disable Markdown? -
The use of the angle bracket only triggers a Markdown transformation operation when it is the first character on a line and you enter a space after that. IIRC, this has been the standard behavior both for general Markdown and for Day One. BUT… it’s entirely possible that a custom Markdown interpreter can follow its own standard and not the canon standard.
For your situation, though, there is an easy workaround, one that fools the Markdown interpreter that Day One uses. Enter a space first before the angle bracket. Then move the insertion point to the beginning of the line, to the left of the space and enter the angle bracket. This will not trigger the automatic block quote transformation by the Markdown interpreter that Day One uses.
Of course, this workaround also produces the desired result if the first spot on the line is a tab rather than a space.
True, this workaround does involve a couple extra key presses, but at least not gets you what you asked for: an angle bracket at the beginning of the line.
