Feature Request: Add list of Tags to sidebar to choose/select from

That sidebar is awful barren! :) It would be really awesome if there was a “Tags” dropdown from which we could select one or (as others have requested) more tags, then only display those entries that contained the selected tag(s).

Yes, I could use the filter, but only for one tag at a time, and it requires extra clicking.

Thanks for the great product! :)

  • Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve added your request for a “Tags” dropdown with single/multiple selection to our feature request list. We appreciate your feedback!

Is it possible to make Tags accessible directly on the main Journals list (underneath the journal folders), similar to how IOS handles their Tags section? Currently, they are a bit buried under the Search menu. Moving them to the main screen would make navigation much faster and keep our organization front-and-center!

  • @ktdec5 Tags are accessible via filters on iOS as shown here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/tips-and-tutorials/filters/

It’s not currently possible to add tags to the main journals list, but I’ve passed your suggestion on to our team for consideration. Thanks!

Yes please! Tags are currently very hidden. At a glance, I’d like to see, of my current list of tags, which is most applicable to the entry.

  • Thanks @bradhalcrow – I’ve added your vote.

I know it’s been over a year since this request was made on this thread. Can we expect to see this implemented anytime soon or is this something Day One does not plan to incorporate in their app? I’d rather know than be hopeful and waiting for a feature that is realistically not going to be added. Thank you.

While I agree with the OP’s suggestion that there be a side panel for selecting a tag to insert into a journal entry, Day One does—now—have a capability that makes selecting a tag for the current entry. And it is faster and involves fewer click-throughs to use than would a panel.

Currently, with the insertion point in an entry, you can enter an octothorp character (the so-called pound sign or hashtag, “#”) and then (with no space) type the name of a tag. The typing also triggers a search of partial matches among already-existing tags, and displays them for selection in a mini-dropdown list.

To create a new tag using the octothorp, you need to toggle a setting to on. See Settings > General > Create Tags from Hashtags.

The results are immediate. No click-throughs for selecting a panel, searching through it, and choosing a tag.

My request was not for a list of tags to be able to INSERT a tag, it was to select one or more as FILTERS, such that only the entries matching the selected tags would be displayed. It’s easy to insert tags. But what’s the point if I can’t filter my list of entries to only show those items with that tag?

Yes, exactly. Inserting tags in an entry is already pretty seamless as is.
What we want is the tag filters to be as easily accessible as the journals are by having them in the sidebar.

  • @ktdec5 We don’t have any current plans to implement this feature, but that doesn’t mean that we never plan to implement it, it’s just not on our short term roadmap. We continue to monitor demand for features and add them to our roadmap as and when it makes sense. Sorry I can’t give you a more definite answer at this point, but I can say that “any time soon” is unlikely.
