Day One Web Beta Appearance Options… Please!!!

I’m new to Day One as of this year and I’m a Premium user. I love writing on it, but I mainly use it web and have noticed that there are a few differences between it on web mode vs. on iOS, the other version I use.

This is the one that bothers me the most: Appearance options. I need font choices, guys. It doesn’t have to be a ton of them, but at a bare minimum let us use the ones we have installed on our computer or Google web fonts. Or the ones that are available already on the other modes.

I have no excuse, but for some reason, the primary font (a sans serif) is so boring and plain that my eyes snobbishly find it offensive. Or something. I just hate it. You might notice in my screenshot that I have been able to change some of the fonts in the webapp but not the most important one: the one that you write in and read what you’ve written in. Browsers have settings for fonts, and I’ve played around with changing them to see if I could change the basic font, but it seems to be the only one I am completely certain I’m unable to modify.

My font options in OperaGX right now are shown below.

I’m also unable to find a way to use strikethrough font on iOS and there are six header options H1-H6 on the web version but only two (I think) on the iOS one.

One more thing: yesterday, I had one tab in Chrome open to Day One and one tab in OperaGX open to Day One. Both were open to the same blank journal page. I decided to start writing, obviously only using one of the browsers (I think it was OperaGX). I figured that since the Opera tab with Day One open kept showing it was syncing as I wrote, that it was syncing to the cloud, and that it would sync and not the version that wasn’t changing, but was instead sitting there unused, untouched. I guess I figured something would have the understanding that things only need to sync when they’re changing, and that a changing document takes precedence over one that is inactive. I guess I guessed wrong. Despite showing the sync icon, the journal entry had no record history of ever containing any words. It saved three versions. All three were blank, so they all came from the inactive browser. Is that because the inactive browser was Chrome, which is naturally faster or better at syncing or something? Or something else?

    Any help is appreciated.

  • @verajart Thanks for all your feedback! Please let me address them one by one.

Thanks for the suggestion! We’ll make sure to note this as your feature request.

Right now, we don’t have a button or visual function that lets you mark text as strikethrough.

However, you can still get the job done using Markdown. Here’s how you do it:

    ~~text to strikethrough~~

Hope that can serve as a workaround.

For the header options, you can find it by tapping More… on the formatting button (Aa). You should see the list under Body.

Please let us know if that isn’t shown for you on your Day One iOS app.

One more thing: yesterday, I had one tab in Chrome open to Day One and one tab in OperaGX open to Day One. Both were open to the same blank journal page.

We wouldn’t really suggest to open the same entry at the same time on more than one device.

To confirm – this is why sync overwrites and conflicts are happening. Day One was developed to be used in place of, or in addition to, a physical journal, where content is created at one location. The Day One sync service augmented this to allow that journalling to take place on any device, and the content would be available.

When an entry is open on more than one device, the sync service can get confused and may lead to data loss. This is why we strongly recommend using Day One to edit on one device and then closing the entry when you are finished to ensure it is synced.

So if you’re journalling across multiple devices, we would suggest leaving Day One open long enough to fully sync before closing the app and switching devices.

    Hope this helps.
