Day One Posts Not Saving

Hi All,
Over the last three days, I enter a journal post into the Day One App on my MacBook, and it shows the entry in the list, but it is blank if you go to it. Why are my posts not saving?

I am seeing the same issue. Made an entry last night and then another this morning and noticed last nights was blank. then this mornings one if i go to another entry and back its blank. Ive lost last nights entry. This is actually really frustrating to put something personal down and have it gone.

To add this mornings first entry did save. Holy smokes. 2 more entries yesterday with no text. This is absolutely crap.

A few details would help narrow down what’s happening:
- What version of Day One are you running on the Mac?
- When you open one of the blank entries, is the text you typed completely gone, or does it come back if you close and reopen the app?
- Are you using Day One on more than one Mac or device? If so, do the same entries show up with content on another device or at https://dayone.me/?
- Roughly how do you normally finish an entry, do you close the window, switch to another entry, or quit the app right after typing?
We’re already looking into a few related issues in the Mac entry editor, so these details will help confirm whether this is the same one.

Version Macbook M2 2016.17 (1777)
Text is completely gone even restarting etc. Version control shows nothing as well.
I use it 50/50 on mac and on iphone.
I generally hit the sync now and lock app once I have finished

I can also add that the web version is also blank time stamped entries with meta. So just like the Mac and iphone.

I have experienced this on macOS 27.0 with Dayone 2026.19 (1783).
- make an entry, type
- make an new entry, type
- go back to first entry, only metadata exists (location, time, etc.) no content
I noticed the entry column usually saved text within a 1-2s of typing, this was not happening, I could not make entries on macOS! Yesterday I noticed a few characters would be saved and nothing further. Today I am noticing 1-2s delay between the entry in the entry column having the text I just typed.
This is a change in behaviour where typing is more-or-less the act of saving the document. Currently I have to double check content on macOS by copying it out before switching to a new entry, just in case. This really impacts the workflow that I have been using for many years with Dayone.
It would be good to hear from Dayone why this happening / happened / fixed or not

I have also lost parts of 3 days of work. Many entries I pasted from another location, deleted the original source, only to have Day One torch it. Often these are my comments on my working codebase, with insights and so on. Very unhappy to lose.
This is a high-level bug that need IMMEDIATE response. I’ve sent a movie to Day One support.

Are you using multiple desktops and switching away from the main screen and back? I had similar issues and I believe its a bug in some systems and that, they are pushing a fix for it out soon. Ive been saving regularly just in case and syncing before I move away from the screen in the mean time.

It’s been happening since late August. I believe there should have been posts from Day One (the vendor) on this major bug by this time.
I’ve used Day One for many years. I create a new entry and expect it to be saved. No multiple desktops. I don’t even know how to save. There is no menu command for that that I know of.

I also echo smorg3 on this comment. “Today I am noticing 1-2s delay between the entry in the entry column having the text I just typed.” I see the same.

Update: Just downloaded 2026.19 from the App Store; it appeared overnight.
- It appears to not lose work as was happening in earlier versions.
- The 1-3 second delay between typing an entry and seeing its entry show those letters in the list of entries is still there.
- The issue is not directly mentioned.

To be clear about my issue that seems similar, if not the same. I am running 2026.19 (1783). The problem I experienced was entirely on this version.
From the bug report I filed with Dayone I received information that
“This matches a known issue affecting some Mac app users on recent versions, and our engineering team is actively working on a fix.“There was a suggestion to use the web app as it did not exhibit this behaviour and to double check the entry has sync’d. 2026.19 (1783) no longer exhibits the non-saving.
I have not heard anything further regard what went wrong / what fixed the issue.

Thanks for the reports here. This matches a known issue on the Mac app that our engineering team has already fixed, and the fix is shipping in the next Mac release (2026.20), which started rolling out to the public yesterday. Please watch for the 2026.20 update in the App Store and install it as soon as it becomes available.
Until you receive the update, after opening the app, click into a different journal or tab first, then click back into your entry before typing. That resets the editor and avoids the issue.
If an entry currently shows blank, check dayone.me or another synced device for it. If the text was never saved to begin with, typed right after launch, it won’t be there to recover, but entries from before or after that launch window should be fine.
