I have been a long time DayOne subscriber for maybe 10 years. I’ve gone through periods of daily journaling for years on end, and also a recent dry spell where I haven’t journaled in close to a year. I love the app and the practice, but have fallen out of routine.
I was interested to try the app’s new transcription. And AI features. While the last thing I need is for the guided prompting, it would be incredibly useful to automate some of the things that I do every time I’m constructing an entry — gathering the photos, jotting down my notes and memories, editing and reformatting.
I was sort of expecting to be able to try all this feature as a Pro (now Silver) subscriber. In the app actually advertised having 7 trial daily chats. But that freemium capability isn’t working right, and I had to just pay for gold in order to do this. Disappointed with the overall output.
it definitely does not seem to me that DayOne is using the latest OpenAI model, and I fear maybe they just cheaped out with one of the older, cheaper ones. The reasoning in the constructed post felt like something from gpt 4.7. But even worse than that, there is zero integration with the camera roll functionality, which is key for me. I want to be able to pull in images that illustrate what I am journaling about. Or at the very least be able to pre-select these and have the app prompt me to fill out the story. As it was, the entry generated did not even have images.I may take a swing at having Muse or Dot agent do all this for me, but left wondering why exactly I paid 3x for Gold when it’s not delivering the feature I wanted.
