Critical Sync Error “Failed to fetch content keys” – Now locked out

Hi Day One Support, I am experiencing a persistent synchronization issue that started on March 24th, 2026.

My desktop app has been showing a “ContentKeyFetch” error for over 10 days. The specific error message is: “Failed to fetch content keys from server” and “No active content key fingerprint found” related to a Daily Chat entry from March 24th.

Today, the issue escalated. I logged out of the Web version and now I have been logged out of all my devices (Mobile and Web Browser). When I try to log back in via browser (even in Incognito mode), I get a generic: “An error occurred. Please try again later.” On mobile, it says: “Expired session.”

I have a backup of my data, but I am unable to access my account at all. It seems my encryption keys are out of sync or corrupted on the server side.

Could you please check if there is a block on my account or if my encryption metadata needs to be reset?

  • The sync error you’re seeing (“Failed to fetch content keys” / “No active content key fingerprint found”) is a known issue related to Daily Chat encryption that affected a number of users. The good news is that it has been resolved on our end.

To clear the error and restore access on the web, please try the following:

    1. Open dayone.me in your browser
    2. Do a hard refresh: Cmd+Shift+R on Mac (or Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows)
    3. If you’re still seeing the login error, clear your browser cookies specifically for dayone.me, then reload and try signing in again

If you’re still unable to log in after those steps, please let us know – we’ll contact you to get account details.

For the desktop app, the sync error should resolve automatically once you’re successfully signed back in.
