App Frozen in update

    App began auto update but never finished and is now frozen mid-update. Cannot open it at all. Is there an issue with this latest update? I’m not having this issue with any other app updating.

  • Hi @jameslainglive

    We’ve had a few reports of the issue. If you power your device off, and back on the update should complete. If that does work, please try these steps.

    I’m having this problem today. The app update didn’t finish and seems frozen. When I go to the App Store, the “open” button is live, but nothing happens when I click it. I tried restarting the device but it didn’t help. I used the app earlier today, (2 April 2026) so it’s a new issue with today’s app update.

  • Hello @kristinestabrook!

    Apple manages the downloads and updates from the App Store. We’ve had a few users report this to us, and other developers have also seen this and reported it to Apple.

    We hope they will resolve this soon.

    There are a few workarounds in the article below.

    Please give those options a go and hopefully one of them will work for you to get that update downloaded.

    I have the same problem with my app- can’t open or download it and I tried everything described here. I really don’t want to lose all my input. I hope it will be fixed soon without any loss on my data.

    Same issue here. Started last week, then working yesterday. Now back to being stuck again this morning. App shows “Waiting….”

    @jasminabestelling @snooksherri

    To confirm, when you say Day One is stuck updating, do you mean the app is showing update progress from the App Store? If so, the issue is an App Store issue, not specific to Day One. Day One and the developers do not control the app update process. These are the recommended steps from Apple troubleshooting to resolve the app-update issue: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102632

    If you are experiencing a different issue than the app not updating from the App Store, please let us know.

    The problem is only with Day One. This has happened several times. The app looks as though it is 75% done updating, but it doesn’t change.

    It did help to restart, but this has happened several times (perhaps with updates on the iOS?) and only to Day One.

    Same here. The issue is only with Day One App. As of yesterday (4/8/26) the App is finally working on my iPhone, but to no avail on my iPad. On my iPad the app continues to be greyed out and showing “Waiting…”. Finally got tired of it and deleted the App on my iPad. Since I’m obviously not the only one with this issue I would hope this is being worked on. I’ll wait a while and download again on iPad in hopes this issue has been fixed.

    @pammm56 @sherrikess

    I understand the perception that it is only happening to Day One. Unfortunately, app developers do not control the install/update process from the App Store; that is handled by Apple via the App Store.

    These are the recommended steps from Apple troubleshooting to resolve the app-update issue: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102632. As far as I know, there is nothing developers can do to resolve this on their end. I am happy to be corrected if things have changed, but this is how I understand the App Store+update process.
