Instead of inserting a long raw URL + explanation, I would love to keep my entries simpler by highlight text + attach the link directly to it.

If possible, I would also transform several entries in the form of (photos + title) into one entry in the form of highlight text with hyperlink.

Regarding your first question, You should indicate which environment you’re in (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, web, Android). The specific steps will vary depending on the environment.

I’ll give an example for the macOS environment. Assuming a URL on the system clipboard:

    1. Highlight the text in the entry that you want to be the caption for the link.
    2. Press ⌘+K to display the URL entry dialog.
    3. Paste the URL from clipboard into the dialog.
    4. Click OK.

Instead of the ⌘+K as stated above, the equivalent menu command is Edit > Format > Add/Edit Link. Or if you right-click the highlighted text, the command in the context menu is Link > Add Link…

Regarding your second question, transforming multiple entries into one entry using a link, I doubt that’s possible in current Day One functionality. To my knowledge, you can link to only one target entry in a single hypertext link. But I could be wrong and I’ll defer to an expert for answering that one.

Legend, ⌘+K shortcut is really useful.

I think my original idea was more like the links in Outlook emails, which support dox, PPTs, and Excel files:

Whether one uses a keyboard shortcut or a menu command is really a matter of personal preference and work flows. That’s why I mentioned all paths. It sounds like you work similar to the way I do—using keyboard shortcuts so I don’t have to take my hand from the keyboard and go to the mouse to navigate menu commands.

On linking… In my experience on the Mac, some applications provide a way to get a copy of a file or document as a Mac-compatible link. For example, my task/project app, 2Do, lets me get a link to a particular project. I can then use that URL (IRL?) in Day One to set up a link from a journal entry to open that project (starting 2Do if it’s not already running). The “Sharable Link” produced by that 2Do menu command looks like this, where the UID is a unique identifier for one particular data element in 2Do:

    twodo://x-callback-url/showTask?uid=3bafca0a328545fa90a6d50a93a6cc73

I don’t see a way or menu command in the Office suite apps to do that same thing.

If you could find a way to get or produce a link with that structure, you might be able to make a link in a Day One journal entry to an Office document (Word, Excel, etc.).
