Where did the camera icon go?

My husband has memory issues and uses this app to record what he does throughout the day. There used to be a camera icon and a + sign on the journal page. This made it very easy for him to just take a picture of what ever he was doing to add it to his journal. That icon and + sign has gone away. The plus sign is now at the bottom center of the screen but there is no picture icon. To add a picture he has to go into his camera gallery app and ‘share’ it with DayOne. This is very cumbersome. Anyone have any solutions here? Why?!?! would you romove this icon and make it more difficult????

Hi there! Thank you so much for raising this to us – we’re so glad to hear Day One helps your husband record what he does throughout the day. You’re right that we’ve recently made some changes, but you still have the camera option available to you if you tap and hold on the
+icon at the bottom of the screen! It used to be that they would appear when you tapped the+icon, so all that you need to do now is tap and hold.In case it’s helpful, you can also tap the
+icon after you start a new entry and aphotosicon will appear. If you tap that, it takes you to your photo gallery. In the bottom left corner of the photo gallery, you’ll find a camera button, where you can take a photo within Day One.I hope this helps, and thanks again for reaching out about this!

Tapping and holding does not do anything at all, tapping opens a new journal entry is all it does. A long hold results in nothing (Samsung Galaxy S7 Active). Yes, he can start a new entry, take a picture for the “media” file, then attach it to his journal entry, but that is so many more steps than what he used to be able to do. He just can’t remember those steps. It’s cumbersome. It was so EASY to just tap on the camera icon. Bam, there was his journal entry. One tap, picture, entry made. I just don’t understand why you would take this feature away.
What I have him do now is to start an entry, click on the ‘more’ icon and then pick ‘camera’. Still several clicks, but not as cumbersone as taking a picture, then accessing the photo file. Yet, he forgets how to do this and reverts to a voice to text entry. (Please don’t take that feature away)
In my opinion, this is really a big mistake removing the camera icon. It was so easy. I am completely baffled as to why you would change something easy only to make it more difficult. His Occupational Therapist from Washington University in St Louis is the one that recommended this app due to it’s ease of use and his memory issues. I will let her know that it is not as intuitive as it once was and is probably not a good choice for memory patients.
Please pass these concerns on to your development team. Please bring back the easy camera icon.
