What is the Day One JSON import format?

I would like to move from my current journaling app to Day One. I would therefore also like to transform the export of my current journaling app data into the Day One JSON format for importing.

It doesn’t matter what form my exported data is in – assume I know how to programmatically transform it to proper Day One JSON import format. Obviously there is no “Export to Day One format” (or any other) in my app, natch.

But – What is that Import format/specification? Again, assume I (and many others) know how to interpret a JSON “spec”.

I’ve been looking but it appears to be either undisclosed or my searches are bad. Is there a JSON specification I (we) can use as a target for transformation for import into Day One? if so, how do I (we) find it?

If the JSON import spec would rather not be disclosed then Day One is not useful to me and I’ll need to look elsewhere for a journaling app to which I can import data.

    Thank you.

I don’t work for Day One Journal, so I can’t vouch for this. I don’t know how old this information is or whether it is out of date, but it is from the official Day One online help resources.

    Importing Data to Day One

This help topic links to a number of other help topics, one of which appears to be for the JSON format.

  • Hi @flunky2809 – The following page includes a sample JSON file you can download to see how it needs to be formatted.

    Hope that helps!
