Web/Windows App Lagging Heavily During Edits – Anyone Else Seeing This?

    A month passed and it still lags heavily on web version 2025.15.2, I don’t get why this post is marked “Solved” when it’s not. When typing text there are constant freezes approximately every 5 seconds or so – when there is any photo in the entry. Doesn’t freeze without photos.

    Any updates on that open issue you had one month ago @staff-reid ? It’s an extremely obvious bug, I genuinely don’t understand why so much time passed and it’s still here.

    I think there were multiple similar issues here and some of them were fixed and others weren’t. Support staff were unable to fix my issue, and left it at “Our team has been notified about this, and we will do our best to keep you posted with any movement on the issue”

    While talking with the support staff we figured out the following about the issue I was (and still am) experiencing.

    1) It seems to be caused by a large journal size (4,500+ entries and media attachments). Creating a new, empty journal within the app eliminates lag while typing there.

    2) Not only does the lag only occur in that large journal, but it also only occurs in entries with a media attachment. Creating a new entry without media in the large journal eliminates lag as well.

    3) Lag only occurs in web/windows versions. No problem with Mac or iOS versions.

    So a stubborn combination of windows app, large journal size, and entries with media attachments. No mention of an ETA for a fix sadly, but if you’re experiencing the same issue, maybe that gives some ideas about workarounds to minimize the lag.

  • @dpolovinkin @lucasjarche Thanks for following up. While it may seem like an obvious bug, our developers actually haven’t been able to reproduce the issue consistently, so it’s proving difficult to fix. I’ve asked for an update and we’ll comment again here when we know more. Thanks.

    I have the same issue; it’s in Firefox (latest version) and Windows 11.
    Both web and Windows app (from Microsoft Store) are unusable. Typing takes ages, I have about 1700 entries and syncing is finished.

    Is there anything I can do to help find the issue and solve it?
    It’s not useable at all and I feel like I should get my premium sub back for the time it won’t work ;)


    Other people: Please notify if you found a solution or also have the same problems, if more people complain there is a bigger chance the team will actually look into this.

    I can imagine how frustrating this must be. We’re actively investigating the cause of the problem and hope to have an update we can share in this thread soon.

    Based on our testing so far, it does seem to be an issue for really large journals.

  • Hi folks. We recently shipped an update to the web/windows app (2025.20.2) which should help with the performance/lag issues reported here.

    Could you please refresh the app (or quit/restart the Windows app) and confirm that you see version 2025.20.2 in Settings > Advanced, then test and let us know if you see any improvement?
