Web/Windows App Lagging Heavily During Edits – Anyone Else Seeing This?
-
Hi everyone,
I’ve been running into some serious lag when using the Day One web/Windows app. Even small changes to my journal entries—like typing a few words or updating tags—seem to trigger a sync or save that slows the editor to a crawl. It feels like every minor action is causing a background operation that impacts performance.
I’m wondering:
- Has anyone else experienced this kind of lag in the web/Windows app?
- Has anyone found a workaround or way to improve performance?
I’m mostly using Day One on mobile, but I occasionally use the web/Windows app on my PC—and the lag there makes it really difficult to edit entries smoothly.
Thanks in advance!

Just chiming in to say that I’m experiencing the same issue, and hope to see any fixes posted here. Thanks.

@aalmog23 and @lucasjarche Our developers just released version 2025.11 of the web app, which includes a performance fix that should help with the issues you’ve been experiencing.
Kindly check that you’re already using 2025.11:
- Click Settings (gear icon) on the upper-left corner of the screen
- Click Advanced
- You should see the version number
If you do not see 2025.11, kindly refresh the browser window and check again. Then, please let us know if the performance fix made a difference.

Windows app. No improvement unfortunatelly. There is a noticeable lag when i am typing, trying to add pictures or even switch between journals.

Support staff have been hard at work troubleshooting things with me over email, much appreciated! In the meantime I’ve noticed that editing/creating/typing in entries WITHOUT photo/media attachments generates a lot less lag than editing entries WITH attachments, which allows me to use the Windows/Web App for writing, before switching to the mobile/mac app to add attachments later.

When I opened the Windows app today (May 28) I received a notice: “update: now multiple journals available.” It seems the update was on the web version, since the Windows app is still version 1.03. This update seems to have caused a real problem I never experienced before:
Whenever I click on any journal entry, the Day One app very briefly flashes, the side panel containing journal lists opens even though I had closed it, and all journal entries are re-synced – every single time. If I just want to browse several journal entries – either in the calendar or list view – this process repeats itself every time: a quick flash, side panel opens, entire journal re-synced. This makes browsing entries very unpleasant – and the Windows app almost unusable for me in this present state.
I’m guessing the update to the web version was meant to address the lag issue reported here. From my experience the resulting behavior I described is worse than the issue it was meant to correct.

hi, I don’t know what exactly was the problem before, but now I launched the app on Windows, and it’s lagging very hard when I typing, it’s like every 3-4 seconds it’s just freezes… I’ve seen nothing like that in years of using Mac app. Found this thread by googling
My version is 2025.13.2

@dpolovinkin I just tested the Windows app on my end and didn’t experience any lag while typing. To help us investigate further, could you confirm whether you’re using the Windows desktop app or the web app in a browser?
Also, the latest version of the Windows app is v1.0.3 — could you double-check the version you’re using? It looks like you may have mentioned a different version number (2025.13.2), which might be from another platform.

@staff-frank I’m using Windows app from Windows Store (https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nn2h8x92wbt), and version I’m mentioning is the one written in Settings/Advanced of the app. I can’t paste images here, but it’s those lines there

You are using 0.26 GB out of 735.23 GB
Version: 2025.13.2But yes, indeed if I go to Help/About DayOne, it’s v1.0.3 there. But yeahh it’s not another platform :)))))
And it lags heavily when I’m typing text in the entry with photos present, just like people complained above in this thread
