Viewing word count while typing in iOS app
-
Is there a way to view the word count as you are typing within the iOS app? I know you can view the stats by clicking the carrot option that brings up some of the metadata, but it would be cool to have something similar to the desktop app. The macOS app shows the stat bar at the bottom that updates live as you type, and I would love to have the option to also show that in the iOS app. TIA!

Thanks for the suggestion, @mattmtong! We don’t offer that feature right now, but I’ll gladly forward your request to our team for consideration.
If you need any other assistance in the meantime, just let us know!

Hi, I would also love to see the word count displayed as I type on my iPad. I’ve started using Day One for Morning Pages, where the goal is to type 750 words of stream of consciousness thoughts every morning. A running word count would be wonderful!

Hi @alecsharp,
Thank you for your feedback! I have added your comment as a vote for the feature. -
I vote for this feature as well for the same Morning Pages reason! It would be great to also be able to set word count goals.

Hi Day One Team!
Has there been any progress on getting a word count visible while typing in iOS and iPadOS? Thank you!

@mattmtong Appreciate you checking in! At the moment, there’s no update to share yet. We’re still keeping an eye on interest and feedback around this. Thanks again for reaching out!

I’m wondering if some of the inaction is due to thinking that a phone screen is too small. Perhaps you could split the request into separate requests for iPhone and iPad.
For many people an iPad is a substitute for a Mac. Your developers might think writing a 750 Morning Page on a iPhone would be crazy, but writing a 750 word Morning Page on an iPad is almost the same as writing it on a Mac.

Hi @alecsharp,
The screen size is not the main concern at the moment. It’s more so that there are higher priority feature requests that are more in line with the roadmap in place.
Generally speaking, if we see significant interest from customers and our team agrees that it is in line with our values and product goals, then the idea may get added to our development roadmap.
That said, I’ll share your comment about the iPad in the internal feature request.
