Useless startup animation

The ONLY goal for an app’s startup process is to get your users to a functional app as fast as possible. This new cutesy little journal flip animation is absolutely worthless. I’m sure some designer had a good ol time designing it, but you need to get rid of it. You all have spent a lot of time recently making your UX worse, and it needs to come to an immediate halt.

    Hi @boldwater8759,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the new design. We truly appreciate your feedback and understand that change can sometimes be challenging, especially when it comes to something as familiar as an app’s interface.

While we can’t guarantee that every suggestion will be implemented, please know that your input is invaluable to us as we continue to refine and improve the app.

Our team is constantly working to make adjustments based on user feedback, so your voice does make a difference.

Disagree. The animation doesn’t impact on the loading time anymore than the previously static image did. There will always be an element of loading time on any device be it the genie effect, zoom, springboard etc and the ‘covering’ of loading by the short minimal animation is a delightful way of passing the 0.5 to 1 second.

This is incorrect. The static image is part of iOS’s native loading system. Once that image is done, the app is ready. The animation is *not* part of that system; it’s an addition by an app developer. This is how the entire iOS system works (I write iOS apps for a living)

Here’s a link to the iOS app startup sequence. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/app_and_environment/responding_to_the_launch_of_your_app/about_the_app_launch_sequence/ .

The animation is extra. It is not a requirement for app boot

  • @boldwater8759 Feel free to tap on the animation to dismiss it.

I’m glad there’s a workaround. Now add an option to disable it permanently
