Unable to import from Day One Classic
-
I never received an email or any notification that the Day One Classic app had been retired in 2016 or 2017 whenever it was. I’ve been using it my children’s entire Iives. I have countless entries and photos. Yesterday my app was blank. I followed instructions to download the new app. When I try to import from Day One Classic to the new app, nothing happens. I literally cannot click the button. Contacting customer service told me I have to purchase Day One Premium in order to get help. Or I can post here on the forum. I am desperate and wlll purchase the premium package if it will actually recover my journal… but I don’t want to purchase it if the data is lost forever anyway. Can anyone help?!?!?
-
I should add I cannot log in to my original journal either. The email address and password gets an “oops! Internal service error.” I am just sick about this. I cannot find a backup anywhere on my iCloud either. I feel like I’m screwed and eleven years of journaling about my children is gone forever.

Hello @nicolebrynnstewart. Thanks for reaching out. We will do all we can to help with this. Do you have a Mac computer by chance? Have you tried any of the alternative recovery options in this guide? https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-classic/day-one-classic-version-1-recovery-options/. If so, which one(s)?
Were you using iCloud as the sync method in Day One Classic? If you go to your mobile device Settings > iCloud > Manage Storage > Day One Classic > do you see an amount of synced data there?
The email address and password gets an “oops! Internal service error.”
Day One Classic is not able to sign in to Day One Sync any longer due to encryption updates on the server. Day One Classic was not updated to work with those updates.

I have the same issue. I don’t think the staff member read the issue. The recovery method provided in the article does NOT work because when you select “Import/Export” the option to “Import from Day One Classic” is not selectable.
-
Hm, the “Import from Day One Classic” option should be selectable. Can you explain what happens when you tap on it? Just literally nothing?
-
I also have the same problem. My situation is that after changing to a new iPhone, day one classic cannot be installed and cannot be imported to the new day one. I’m frustrated that I didn’t switch earlier, is there any other way?

Hello @sorong1119. Do you have a Mac? If so, there are additional recovery options on Mac. See here for all available recovery options for Classic: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-classic/day-one-classic-version-1-recovery-options/
Let us know if you have questions along the way.

Hello staff-James.I have a Mac and I have tried all the methods on the official website.During the classic period, I always used it without logging in.There is no problem with iPhone4s, 6s, X, and 12 in the past, and no problem when updating iPhone 12 ios6 to ios7.Until this time when iphone 12 was replaced by iphone 15, day one classic APP showed that it had to be updated, but it could no longer be updated after clicking it. Because it could not be installed, it could not be transferred to day one2, and the old iphone 12 had been reset…
I came to ask for help. -
@sorong1119 It sounds like you were trying the steps to restore in an iOS device.
Since you mentioned you have a Mac, have you tried the steps for macOS 10.15 or later? If so, what happened when you tried that? Did you see any errors or are there any steps that didn’t work out for you?
-
@staff-fred About the way macOS 10.15 or later. After step5 and It open a Finder window with a day one folder. It’s empty, there’s nothing inside.

Hello @sorong1119. Do you remember what sync method was enabled in Day One Classic? That will help us know where to look next.
There is no problem with iPhone4s, 6s, X, and 12 in the past, and no problem when updating iPhone 12 ios6 to ios7.Until this time when iphone 12 was replaced by iphone 15, day one classic APP showed that it had to be updated, but it could no longer be updated after clicking it.
Day One Classic was retired in 2016. It was not updated and optimized for newer versions of iOS. As of iOS 15, Day One Classic can no longer be used.
