Transferring Entries from 2013 Macbook Pro
-
Hi all, I have been journalling on DayOne since 2013 and primarily done on my 2013 Macbook Pro with DayOne version probably circa 1.1. I would like to transfer all my entries to my Windows 11 laptop.
Unfortunately, the previous version only allows export via text or mark down files. My entries don’t have any fancy formatting or photos. I just want to transfer the entries and preserve the date format. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

It’s great to hear you’ve been journaling with Day One since 2013!
Day One Classic (version 1) was officially retired in March 2016 and is no longer supported. However, you can still transfer your data.
If you download the current version of Day One from the Mac App Store, you should be able to import your data from the Classic app. We’ve put together a detailed recovery guide to help with this process: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-classic/day-one-classic-version-1-recovery-options/

Hi Frank, thanks for that. I currently use a Windows 11. The old version on my Mac that I use only has the option to export text files and Mark Down files. However DayOne on my windows does not import these files.
Kindly advise. Thanks.

@kennyl1811 The best thing to do would be to import those Classic entries into the latest version of Day One on your Mac.
You would then be able to export those entries from Mac and Windows as a JSON and import them on both platforms.
Hope that helps.

Hi @kennyl1811
Since iCloud is needed for getting your Day One Classic Data, it can only be done via iOS or macOS. We have the steps outlined here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-classic/upgrading-importing-from-day-one-classic/
Once it is imported into the current Day One App, you can export it to your Windows laptop (however, it should sync over to your account if you are using Day One Sync and login with the same credentials on Windows)
