Text strikethrough?

I don’t now where the text strikethrough option went. Why is it removed and can you add it back? Thanks.

I believe you’re asking about the change in our app as of version 2023.8 on Apple devices where text isn’t struck through any more when you check an item off a list.

This was a design decision the team made, as they thought the dimmed font color treatment would be sufficient for marking the item done. There isn’t a way to force the app to go back to using strike through at this time, but I’ll let the team know you’d like to see it and miss how things used to work.

    Three things on this:

    1. Is it possible to change the color of the dimmed font under the current configuration?
    2. I’d also like to see the strikethrough returned.
    3. I’d also like to see a strikethrough text options in general. It’s a good way to express a particular thought emotion sentiment in daily journaling.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Same, and if I may say: In my experience, the strikethrough has proven to be a highly effective means of expressing sentiments or indicating completed tasks. It aligns well with the way our brains process information and adds a visual element to signify progress. It’s comparable to not having a windscreen wipers – sure, wind and hot sun can blow off and dry the windshield, but wipers do it more effectively. Yes, it’s a metaphor you get, anybody want to help me here?

I’m curious if the decision to remove the strikethrough was driven by a specific improvement or if it was more of an update for the sake of update. As my grandad used to say, “Don’t fix a working thing.”

Considering the functionality and positive impact the strikethrough has, I kindly request its reinstatement unless there is a compelling reason that outweighs its benefits.

  • Hello @pisang20

Strike through has been removed from the checklists, and we had many users contact us about wanting to still be able to read that checklist item. They have since been grayed out after checking something off a checklist.

If you’re using Day One on iOS, Mac, or at dayone.me you can use markdown to use strike through. To do that you will use “~~” at the start and end of what you want to strike through. Make sure to add a space at the end to convert it from markdown.

    Hopefully that helps.
