Template Sections Not Applying/Staying when I add them or copy them

I created a template with 3 questions. I used the sections button to write out the questions in the template. When I create the journal from the template it of course shows the 3 questions. But when I copy and paste those 3 sections elsewhere in the journal it turns to just plain text after I close and reopen. The 3 original questions stay as sections. How do I keep the questions showing as a section? This particular journal is going to be ongoing with these questions. Thank you.

I’m glad you reached out! Testing this out on my iPhone with Day One version 2023.16 I’m not able to repeat what you’re describing. I can copy and paste sections into different entries, while the section formatting is retained.

Testing on my Google Pixel I do see a similar behavior to what you’re describing. This happens when I copy test, then move to a different entry, and tap the copied text to paste it from my keyboard. It pastes the text without formatting

This is because this pasting process removes formatting by default in Android. If, however, I long press on where I want the text to go and choose “paste” instead of “paste without formatting” the sections are preserved.

Can you let me know what OS you’re on and the version of Day One you’re using when you see the issue? It will also help to know if the solution I described above works for you if you’re on Android.

Hi. So I didn’t do this with my iPhone of which I am running IOS 17 (Beta). I did this on the web version. But I will tell you that I just did it now on my iPhone and when I pasted the first 3 questions/sections, it retained the formatting but then I hit return a couple of times and pasted it again, it did not retain the formatting. I’m having to just do 1 journal entry for the 3 questions and just keep doing a new journal entry every time instead of having it all in one entry. Not sure where to do with this one. Thanks.

Thanks for the additional information, @feefimoe! Are you usually creating entries and editing them in an ongoing manner like this? I was just curious about your process.

I tried this on iPhone (pasting a template, copying it, and hitting return a few times and pasting again) and I am still seeing the formatting.

Can you find the version number of Day One on each device and let me know what you have? See here:

Sorry for the long response. To answer your question about the templates, I do have two different journals that have this but I decided to just create a separate journal for each for the time being. 2023.17 1503 on my macbook air and 2023.17 (2426) on iPhone. Both premium. Thanks
