tags NOT working
-
I am new to the DayOne app and cannot get tags to work at all. Period. Extraordinarily frustrating….
I am using the following version: 2023.20 (1512) on Mac OS desktop. I would have included screenshots but the site is not letting me do so….
- First, I can’t understand the downward facing pink and grey arrows in the window – when you click on either arrow the color shifts to the other side – what is the color indicating? And what are the arrows supposed to reveal and/or control?
- The default text area says ‘search’ vs the iOS version which says ‘type tag’ – this is utterly confusing….
- When I type text in the ‘search’ area and click the ‘+” button it seems to create a tag – BUT – when I click out of the window and re-open it – there are NO tags. The tags are not sticky and do not stay in the tag list. In turn, no tag is being added to my diary entry.
- If I click on the newly created tag right after I’ve created it (e.g. the window is still open) it disappears. I think this is the default behavior to remove tags – which I find crazy confusing. (How about a ‘-‘ button?). Wouldn’t you click on something to add it? Not remove it?
- Using a hashtagged word is supposed to (when checked in preferences) create a tag – it does this but it takes FOREVER – mine showed up after 15 minutes – 15 minutes! CRAZY….and then it’s not a lozenge shaped tag – which would be easy for the eye to pick out – its a single TINY text word next to the name of the journal at the bottom of the page – so outrageously small and insignificant it’s not helpful….and worse – when you remove the hashtagged word from the diary entry the tag disappears from BOTH the dairy entry and the tag list. So this is crazy – it only works with redundancy – Why would anyone want to use both tags and hashtags in the same entry? This is so not well thought out….
Can someone please help me?
Thanks – Cindy

Hi Cindy, Thanks for reaching out with the valuable feedback about the Mac app!
I can’t understand the downward facing pink and grey arrows in the window
The left pink arrow lets you sort the tag list by alphabet (A-Z), whereas the right pink arrow sorts the tag list by the number of entries (high to low).
The default text area says ‘search’ vs the iOS version which says ‘type tag’ – this is utterly confusing….
This is a great feedback! I’ve shared the discrepancies with the team for the UI improvement.
When I type text in the ‘search’ area and click the ‘+” button it seems to create a tag – BUT – when I click out of the window and re-open it – there are NO tags. The tags are not sticky and do not stay in the tag list. In turn, no tag is being added to my diary entry.
I tested the flow, but the tag was added when I clicked outside of the tag search window. Did you click the “X” button on the tag list or just click somewhere outside of that tag list window?
If I click on the newly created tag right after I’ve created it (e.g. the window is still open) it disappears. I think this is the default behavior to remove tags – which I find crazy confusing. (How about a ‘-‘ button?). Wouldn’t you click on something to add it? Not remove it?
This isn’t happening to me, too. I have to click the “X” button on the newly added tag to remove it from the entry.
Using a hashtagged word is supposed to (when checked in preferences) create a tag – it does this but it takes FOREVER – mine showed up after 15 minutes
I did experience a few seconds of delay when adding a tag using a hashtagged word. I tested this on the same app version (2023.20), macOS 13.5.2 (22G91). Do you mind telling us the macOS version you’re using to see if this is related?
For the issues I couldn’t reproduce, do you mind capturing a screen recording and uploading it to Google Drive or iCloud (or other free video hosting service like YouTube) and sending us the link to view/download the video?
Thanks!
