Sync not working… how do I sign in again without losing unsaved entries?

    Hi,

Sync stopped working on my Mac sometime in the last day or two. When I click the Sign In button, I get a message stating “Items not yet saved. When you sign out, journal content will be removed from this device. 3 items have not been saved to your accoun tyet. If you sign out before tehse are saved, those updates will be lost.”

Is there a way to find out what these entries are so that I can save them and sign in again to resume syncing to the cloud?

(I tried including a screen capture, but WordPress won’t allow it.)

I had been using, writing on my Daily One for years. I recently moved and now, finally having unpacked etc. I tried opening up Daily OM but I find that it’s unable to open. It is very upsetting since I used it as a diiary and have many things that I cannot replicate. Please tell me there’s a way of retrieving my writing.

    Hi @staff-lynn

Thanks for the reply, but you didn’t answer my question regarding how to figure out which notes haven’t synced yet.

Regardless, I looked at the article you shared. Here are the results:

Are you signed in to the same account on every device? Yes. I only have one account.

Do you see Premium on all devices? Yes.

Do you see an Encryption Key on all devices? Maybe? iOS shows the encryption key and the fact that it is backed up to iCloud, but Mac only shows “Encryption key is stored in iCloud” but does not display it. I assume that means the Mac has the encryption key, since it shows with a green checkmark.

Are you on the latest update? Yes.

Did you make any big changes to your account recently? No. The problem is that it won’t sync at all, not just that it is syncing slowly.

So the question remains: How do I easily see which notes are only on the Mac? I need to copy those to another application so that I can sign-in again.

Well, the fix turned out to be significantly easier than I expected.

First I tried looking at “all entries” and compared them to the same “all entries” list on my phone. I only found two differences though (the app said 3 things were not synced yet), so I copied those two notes to Apple Notes at least and prepared to try the sign in button again. I then happened to notice that the main window had a “sign in” button on the left sidebar. (Not in settings. I’m referring to the left sidebar of the main window. The “sign in” option showed right below the “Settings” link.) I clicked that and followed the procedure to sign-in. It did not sign me out, but instead fixed the sign-in and my notes synced.

The only loss I had was my streak. It now shows 4 days instead of 360+ since I deleted the entry on 12/21.

While I’m happy this is resolved, I’m disappointed in the support experience. (Besides this fruitless forum post, I also opened a case with support and did not receive a reply.) I wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone who doesn’t have advanced computer skills and is uncomfortable troubleshooting issues by themselves.

(@elwax, I recommend starting a new thread in this forum, and you may as well try contacting support directly… maybe you will have better luck than I did.)

If you add another entry and date it to 12/21, the streak will be restored.
