Sync broken between mac/iOS

Hello, I seem to have encountered an issue on sync between mac and iOS. I have 3 journals total, with 334, 60, and 10 entries.

I noticed E2EE was off for all journals for some reason, so I enabled it. The mac app froze and I had to force quit it. All journal entries were still there on starting the app again, however the iOS app was showing a total of around 93 entries total across all 3. I logged out of iOS and back in, to no avail.

Since all the entries still existed on the mac side, I exported all 3 journals in JSON format, deleted all journals, and verified on iOS that no journals existed after sync.

I then imported the exports into the mac app, and it again shows 334, 60, and 10 respectively, with E2EE enabled on all.

However, on iOS it’s still not getting everything. It currently shows 169, 30, and 7 entries respectively, meaning many are missing. Do I just need to wait a bit for everything to sync up? Both devices show they are up to date when it comes to sync.

Sync broken for me too, on an iPhone 12 mini I got some new entries and updated entries that are only there.

It does work from macOS to the Cloud and to https://dayone.me, but from the iPhone is as if it were offline. No updates received, no updates sent.

Same issue for E2EE and regular journals. Premium subscription.

It probably broke with yesterday’s update.

Not sure about yesterday’s update honestly since I really only broke things today. As for dayone.me, it shows the same state that my iOS app shows, with a reduced count of entries.

Seems as though every now and then, a few more entries get added to my iPhone. Right now, for example, Im up to 225/35/9, so making some progress. I guess I’ll just have to give it a few days to see if things shake out.

i have android and had to do a factory reset and only 4 of my entries are there now? Did we just lost them all?

This afternoon finally started working again.

In my case, syncing TO and FROM the MacBook Pro, an Android phone, and an iPad mini worked perfectly. The only thing that didn’t were the changes inputted on the iPhone mini 12 (FROM it to the Cloud). Neither new entries, nor changes on preexisting entries, not even entry deletions. As if the iPhone were offline (I even tried different connections and VPNs). But new entries created on the other devices were properly synced TO the iPhone.

Hi @cajunman4life! It seems that the issue is resolved based on your message to support. Let us know if that is not the case.

@icon42 have you tried signing out and back in on all devices? https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/sign-in-sign-out-with-day-one-sync

@brianharr123 I see you have a separate thread on the forum that we will get to as soon as possible.

I also still have this issue. Entries on my Mac now update seemingly randomly onto my other devices, but not all entries. All of my other devices remain in sync with each other, but not with my Mac

@antonybuckley62 our team has found a bug in our sync process that could be causing this and have a correction ready for it. It will be released in our next update to the app. Please, keep an eye open for any new updates and let us know if your sync troubles continue after that.

We’re here to help until sync is working perfection once more

I also just realized I’m having a big issue between iPhone/iPad and Mac. Mac has a total of 4406 entries across all journals, iPhone 4056 and iPad 4055.

Premium since the beginning this drives me nuts and makes me lose trust.

Changes I make on Mac don’t show up on iOS/iPad OS. Even changing the color of a Journal won’t sync to iPhone. Other way around seems to work: Changes made on iPhone show up on Mac.

Also tried to post on the official Forums, but I keep being logged out right after login.

Update: Day One Web also misses entries, which makes me worried, that I have content on Mac that doesn’t upload to the DO servers.

    Hello @klickreflex.

Can you find the version number of Day One on each device and let me know what you have? See here:
    https://dayoneapp.com/guides/settings/locating-the-version-number-of-day-one/

Version 2023.10.1 should resolve this issue with sync.

    Hi @staff-james,

I’m on 2023.10.1 on all devices and it does not solve the issue. In fact, I was on that version when I first found out about the issue.

Logging out and and back in didn’t help either. The Mac version seems to not upload its changes at all.

    • New entries created on Mac wont’ show up on iPad, iPhone or web
    • New entries cerated on iPhone will show up everywhere (though it might take up to haft an hour or so)
    • That makes me think, the Mac app has a problem sending its updates to the servers

I have this same issue. I have over 66,200 entries.

Thanks for following up, @klickreflex. I see we have an open support conversation with you to gather app diagnostics from all devices. We will continue to work with you there.

@fezorder0g Could you please send diagnostics from all devices with a description of the issue you are experiencing? Please put “Attn: Day One forum post #359” in the subject line.

    https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-diagnostics/

You may receive an automated reply to the diagnostics email. If you do, please reply to the automated reply. Thanks!

I am having this same issue. I just signed up for Premium in order to create additional journals and organize my entries. I did this via the Mac app. It has been 24 hours, I have done all the recommended steps I could find in the help articles, I have left the app open on both my Mac and iPhone to give them time to sync (for upwards of an hour now), I have reset sync etc. etc…. and nothing is happening. The version of my journal(s) that is on the servers is the same version on my iPhone. The updated version on my Mac app is not syncing to any of the others, even though it is the newest version. Very frustrating.
