Spotlight isn’t indexing my journal entries

I’d like to start using DayOne for a project journal, and be able to find entries when I search for keywords in Spotlight. I’ve done a quick test on a new Journal–which DayOne has encrypted by default–and after 48 hours it doesn’t seem like Spotlight has indexed the first entry in that Journal.

Is that expected? I can’t find clear documentation one way or another. I recognize that in many (most?) cases people want their journals private, so its possible this use case just isn’t supported

For anyone else coming across this: I’ve confirmed with DayOne customer support that encrypted journals are not indexed by Spotlight, and that once enabled, the encryption cannot be disabled.

    I’ve filled this–optional per-journal Spotlight indexing–as an enhancement request.

Many thanks, Felciano, for posting this update. It is truly helpful as the only other reference to this topic I can find in Day One support suggests something quite different: that a specific privacy-specific step must be taken to prevent Spotlight indexing, otherwise it’s on by default. I do not have encryption enabled for my main Journal…yet still it remains unavailable to Spotlight. So confusing.

Glad it was helpful, Craig. I’m still hunting for an alternative that could be searchable by Spotlight. If you find something, please share

@craigswanson if you’re still experiencing this issue, could you reach out to our support team through the app — Day One > Settings > Support > Contact Support?

We’d be happy to investigate this from there!
