Sharing private journals
-
I understand that there’s a shared journal and participants can edit, etc; basically I want to share my private journal without allowing editing to whomever I want to without them having to register for their own account either.
perhaps this would be a premium only feature, I know that shared journals is a premium feature as well; but this is a feature I need, I don’t need collaboration. -
Hi there, @shannonbade29f24a! You can learn more about the Shared Journals feature in this guide. You’ll find the list of permissions that members and owners have listed here.
Each participant in the shared journal needs to have a Day One account and use the app to view it. The owner of the shared journal needs to have a Premium plan, while Members can join with a free (basic) Day One account. Members of a shared journal are able to see your entries, but they can’t edit them. They can also create their own entries in the journal.
> without them having to register for their own account
Another option could be sharing specific entries using the export feature. You can export an entry as a PDF or as an image with the Share Card. This way you can email, text, or share on social media. You can find the steps to export an entry here. -
I don’t want to export, I want to be able to share a link to the journal for someone to read at any time; exporting is tedious because that means there are steps in the process… remembering to export, then exporting, finding the file, sending it as an attachment, inputting their email address, etc
I just would like to be able to read-only share my private journal, shared journal has a good purpose but not for this. -
@shannonbade29f24a You might still find Shared Journals useful. To be clear, while multiple users can contribute entries to the shared journal, they can only edit their own entries. So, for example, other journal members can comment on your entries, but they cannot edit your entries.
In any case, I’ve now filed a feature request on your behalf for a shared journal that completely prohibits other users from adding or editing entries.

I echo the need for this…my family would love to be able to read one of my journals that I don’t want to collaborate on…please put it on the development list – a simple web link to the journal for viewing…
