Set location from iOS shortcut

I would like to be able to set the location when creating a new entry from an iOS shortcut. Specifically I am posting an image to a new entry and would like to set the location of the entry to that of the image.

  • @adrian044173ded8 It’s not possible to set the location from the Shortcut at the moment. I’ll be happy to submit this as a feature request for the team to consider.

As a workaround, once the entry is created, you can add location to it by going to the Entry Info view and tapping Apply Location History or manually add a location of your choice.

Also, if media is added to the entry after it is created, there should be a prompt that will appear to apply the location (and date/time) from the photo metadata to the entry.

    Hope this helps!

May I ask you to please add me as a +1 to this feature request? I did not know Day One had a forum to post these things. I must have filed a feature request for this in almost all channels, I’m sorry about that, but this feature is so important to me.

If I may, let me add a bit of context. Day One used to allow inserting location to an entry via Shortcut automations before iOS 16. When iOS 16 came out, Apple began requesting permission to access the Location Services to all automations that manipulated locations. At that time, you removed this feature from the “Create Entry” action so that users who did not need to add a location wouldn’t have to give Location Services permission to their automation. 100% fair decision. However, since then, you have not added an alternative way to add location via Shortcuts automations anymore.

I have been asking this as a feature request with 2 ideas:

    • Either create another action (in addition to the ones we already have) that does create an entry with location metadata, such as “Create Entry with Location”; or
    • Create another action that appends/adds location metadata to an existing entry. Similar to the “Append to Entry” action, but perhaps an “Append Location to Entry”.

This way, only the users who do need to manipulate location would have to give Location Services permission, and everybody wins. I beg you, please, please consider adding a way to add location via Shortcuts automation. 🙏🏻 I am honestly a long time (10 years) subscriber to the Premium service of Day One. I love this app and I would love to have that functionality back. Thank you very much.
