Selective “Optimise device storage”
-
I’m using D1 as a second brain as we say in productivity. So not only I put my trips pictures and videos in one dedicated journal but I also put my videos about my passion workshops and training (exercices and inspiration). But I’ve reached now a good amount of data that let reconsider my strategy… 140Go of data.
Certainly I could choose « Optimize Device Storage » so media stays on the cloud and will be downloaded on demand.
But I like instant quality, at least for my pictures. I’ve realized that I don’t need my videos 99% of the time. But I like to see my pictures ready. So one improvement could be that we would be able to choose what type of media to offload. I could then decide to keep only pictures but offload videos and audio clips. I think I could save 67 Go
Also realized that I don’t need my holidays media nor my passion’s material (videos mainly). So another version of that improvement would be to be able to chose on which journals we want to apply the storage optimization on.
Then lastly the luxury version would to be able to choose for each journal what type of media to offload. That would be the pinnacle. In that instance I would save easily 100Go.
Thank you so much to the dev team for their work!

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback and suggestions for optimizing media storage in Day One. It’s great to hear how you are using Day One as your second brain for productivity, organizing trips, workshops, and training content.
Your idea of being able to choose what type of media to offload is insightful. This feature could indeed help users like you who prioritize instant quality for pictures but are willing to offload videos and audio clips. Additionally, the ability to select specific journals for storage optimization would provide more flexibility in managing data.
I will ensure your feedback is shared with the development team for consideration. Thank you once again for your valuable input and appreciation for the work of the Day One team! If you have any more ideas or feedback, feel free to share them.
