Resizing and user-placement of photos
-
Can we get the ability to post, resize and move about images on the page, please and to type in text anywhere within the entry (maybe use text boxes, for example)?
For example, I’d like to post smaller sized images into an entry then caption them with text to the right of the image. Or to the left of the image, etc..
That’s one option regarding photo placement and sizing.
If I recall we used to be able to insert a caption linked to an image in older versions but that feature seems to be gone.
Thanks. -
Hi @marts57, thanks for your feature request to resize and move images, along with the idea to be able to better customize your journal entry layouts with text and images.
I’ve passed along your feature request to our developers.
If I recall we used to be able to insert a caption linked to an image in older versions but that feature seems to be gone.
I’m not aware that Day One has supported captions for images, so I’ll also pass along this request as well.

This! Entries would look so much better if this was possible, especially for PDF and book printing. I’ve specifically stayed away from ordering a book because the image sizes look crazy when exported.

Thanks.
I can’t remember whether this feature for image captions was in the iOS or Mac version (or both).
But, when you imported a photo there was a space under it to enter text. -
On iOS you can long press on a photo and use the “Insert Text Below” option.
On Mac you should be able to Option click/right click and then the same options should be available to choose from.

Agreed – I find it maddening that when I import an image it fills the entire width of the page. Many times I want images that are illustrative, or serve to compliment what I’ve written. But every image imports as full page size making them much more important than I intend. Can we get handles on images to adjust the size on the page? and alignment Left Right Center?

Hi @tigercyber978bc7a424! Alana from Day One here.
That’s a great request! That is not a feature that we currently offer, but I would be happy to forward your request to the team for consideration. While I am not able to provide detailed information on the point of time of any new release, I invite you to check the following for future feature announcements

I’ve seen these posts for several years now. Is this going to be addressed? Being able to resize photos would be very helpful and would make publishing much more attractive.

Hello
I also think resizing photos would be interesting.
Same thing for attaching legends to photos.
Thanks -
@rogersbetsy @rpirquetcd88d7f4cc We’ll note your interest on vote on this feature. Thank you!

+1. would also love the option to resize photos. it ruins some of the reading experience for me to see a unnecessarily huge photo in the midlde of a text block.

-
+1. Manipulation of photo size/placement and text wrapping around photos is the most essential feature update.

Any movement on this one? I for one am holding off on printing books until that is a feature.
-
Same here. As long as Day One do not want to allow images size and placement manipulations, I cannot and do not want to print any book.
From what I see those last months, Day One app do not receive any improvement anymore, except IA which I will not use for my personal journal.
It looks like it is the end of an era for Day One. -
I printed out one day’s worth of entries from the iPad version of DayOne just now. I wanted to insert the PDF into a journal app in Notability to see how it looked.
There were only 5 entries but the way Dayone formatted the printing it took up 4 pages, too big for what I wanted. It was easier just to do a screen shot and insert that as a photo into Notability.
The images took up most of the real estate on each page, hence making the PDF a lot bigger than it needed to be.
