Repeatable Day One crash in Mac version 2023.17 (1503)
-
Hi. I have found a repeatable crasher in Day One for the Mac. I am running 2023.17 (1503) on macOS 13.5.1 (22G90) on two Macs, an M1 MacBook Air, and an i7 Mac mini. Syncing 4 of 10 journals is enabled on the MBA, and all are synced on the mini. *.sentry.io is blocked on the network via DNS blocking via NextDNS.
Open Day One.
Make a new entry with some text in any synced journal.
Let the entry sync.
Close Day one window (app stays running).
Go to Safari or Chrome.
Copy the URL from the address bar.
Click on Day One in the dock.
Note the new entry is highlighted but does not have focus.
Click into the text of the new entry on the right pane.
Type “Foo<return>”
Press Cmd-V to paste the URL
Press <return>
Quickly press Cmd-Z (before the sync completes).

Hi @rajivmanglani! Thanks for your report. I am able to reproduce this and I will file a bug ticket for our engineers to investigate. Thanks so much!

This crash is still repeatable in Day One version 2024.4 (1539) on macOS 13.6.4 (22G513). I’ve added a new crash log to the gist linked above.

Thank you for the new crash logs. We have re-opened a ticket for this for further investigation.

Thank you, @rajivmanglani. While we wait for the team to look further into this, could we have you try to uninstall and reinstall Day One on your Mac to see if that helps?
If your data is synced, please try to delete Day One and reinstall it, see here:
https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/uninstalling-and-reinstalling-day-one-for-macos
To verify your data is synced you can check on other devices using Day One or sign in to dayone.me and verify you can see all entries there.
