Recent update has been disruptive. Please bring the essential features back
-
Hello Day One Team,
I have been a dedicated user of Day One for a while and greatly appreciate the improvements you continuously make.
However, the recent update (2024.11) has removed a lot of good features from the app.
1. One-click unhide option for hidden entries.
2. “Go to date” functionality in the calendar view.
3. The older style of coloured journals, which was more visually appealing.
Please bring those features back. Without them, DayOne has lost its charm and it just doesn’t feel right. The latest update has not added any value for users like me but has taken away several essential features that were essential to the journaling experience.
I hope you will reinstate those features as soon as possible. Their absence has been quite disruptive.

I agree.
A new general layout is always something complex to setup, convincing users that it is better takes time, and when it removes features (like template access) it’s almost not possible.
I would appreciate a different approach, giving us possibility to switch on or off this layout, or part of it.
I can understand that layout is important, but features are more important. Having a decent search tool would be nice.
Having a book editor and/or being able to export a journal in an editable format (MS Word, InDesign, …) would be great.
More than this, having a robust infrastructure is even more important.
I lost pictures in different journals, without any possibility to get them back. Support told me that I was not possible.
I do not see any real improvement in the overall product since a year or so, except this layout change which is not a great success until now. -
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on the new design. We truly value your feedback and understand that changes, especially to something as familiar as an app’s interface, can be challenging.
We have dedicated a lot of effort to this redesign to enhance the user experience and introduce new features that we believe will benefit everyone in the long run. While we can’t promise to implement every suggestion, your input is invaluable as we continue to refine and improve the app.
We encourage you to give the new design a chance. We are here to assist with any questions or concerns you may have. Our team constantly makes adjustments based on user feedback, so your voice makes a significant difference.

I have given the new design a chance, but it used to be so easy to change journal settings (e.g. if you want the entries sorted by edit date or entry date) from the main screen, and now I have to dig into a bunch of settings. Objectively this is a change for the worse, and it seems to me that whoever decided this change only cared about the looks of it, not the useability.
