Problems with importing plain text files on macOS
-
While trying to transform a plaintext file (from Momento) to a format recognised by Day One on Mac I’ve run into some problems.
Reading the documentation on https://dayoneapp.com/blog/help_guides/importing-data-from-plain-text/ I read the following:
“Location or weather are not required for importing.”
However, the truth seems to be that neither location or weather is possible to import, although I have made extensive testing with the example files on the web page above and while entries with location and weather is imported that info does not show up in Day One
Before I go on I would like confirmation that location (and weather) is possible to import using the plain text approach and if it is I need info on how to format the text since Day One’s example text file obviously does not work (for me at least).

Hi @fetboss,
I’m sorry for the confusion – the plain text import is intended to be a secondary way of getting data into Day One, so the location and weather data are neither required, nor retained. Please use the JSON export/import method to retain metadata.
I hope that clarifies things!

I get that the text file input might be a secondary – last ditch – way for importing but I don’t see the logic in leaving out metadata. However, thanks for the answer. Good to know what’s possible and what’s not.
