PDF naming bug

  Hi,

  Was it intentional that the name of the PDF files always have the date of the most recent date of any entry?

  For example: I have let’s say 10 journals, and one of them has an entry dated 1/1/2040. This means that whatever I export as PDF ends up in a file called 2040-1-1-JournalName.pdf. Shouldn’t it be either the export date (preferable) or the most recent date in the subset of entries exported? Like, let’s say I want to export the entries from May 1, 2025 to May 31, 2025. I should get a file named either 2025-07-13-JournalName.pdf (today’s date) or 2025-05-31-JournalName.pdf. I most definitely shouldn’t get 2040-01-01-JournalName, since that entry has absolutely no relationship whatsoever to my exported set of entries?!

  I’m hoping you guys will tell me it’s a bug and it will be fixed :) Because to me it makes so sense whatsoever for it to work as it does.

  • The OS and OS version on your device – you can usually find this from your device’s Settings
  • Your Day One app version – https://dayoneapp.com/guides/settings/locating-the-version-number-of-day-one/

  This will help us know which platform you are creating the PDF exports from.

   Like, let’s say I want to export the entries from May 1, 2025 to May 31, 2025. I should get a file named either 2025-07-13-JournalName.pdf (today’s date) or 2025-05-31-JournalName.pdf.   I tried reproducing this issue that you described above and I was unable to. I created a new entry and changed the date to 2030-07-19 and when I selected specific entries that did not include that new one, the PDF file was not named 2030-07-19. It was actually named after today’s date and time of creation (see screenshot). Here are the steps I took to export several entries on my iPhone 14 iOS 18.5 and Day One version 2025.14:

  • Selected several entries from July 2025-May 2025.
  • Tap the three dot menu at the bottom right corner.
  • Select Export
  • Tap View PDF
  • Tap the Share icon at the top left corner and check the file’s name

  Could you please share the steps you took so I can try to reproduce it on my phone?
