Option to disable book icon

This new timeline design is a disaster for many reasons, but my least favorite aspect is the book icon. I use Day One to journal about very difficult topics. I also use it for notes when I’m discussing things with my therapist. I will never want this in print, so there needs to be a way to disable that icon.

What’s most concerning is that this feels like a bad omen of things to come, with Automattic begging us more and more to purchase things beyond the subscription. The subscription is reasonably-priced for the services it offers, but as Day One continues to inherit more money-grabbing dark patterns, that may change. Please remember that this is an app for human beings to record some of the most personal info in their lives. This corporate overreach is really starting to feel untoward.

  • Hello @boldwater8759,

The new navigation in Day One is a big change. We appreciate your feedback, and we’ll pass it along to our development team for future consideration.

As I’ve used it more, I’m fine with most of the redesign. But the book icon should be toggleable because (1) I will never use it and (2) it’s mostly just an upsell to make Automattic more money. I already pay for a subscription. I’m not buying a book from you, too. Just let me journal without shoving what is essentially an ad in my face

  • Thanks for the further explanation. I’ve forwarded this feedback to the team.
