No way to reset my Password Protection on my MacOS device

I’ve been having this issue for sometime now where I’m unable to reset my Password Protection password that unlocks the app on my laptop. I have been using touch ID to unlock the app but I would for my own peace of mind like to also be able to use the password protection feature incase the touch ID feature ever fails. I forgot the password since its been over six months since i first started using the app.

I have already tried accessing the password through Keychain Access as shown in the Help Guide but only my account password is stored there – nothing else. The disable password feature doesn’t work unless you enter the password in the first place so that isn’t working for me either.

I would appreciate some insight on how this can be fixed. A forgot password option would be extremely helpful because i’ve tried all my usual combinations and nothing is working. Is there any other way of fixing this issue or an option that I’m not seeing? Thank you in advance.

  • Hello @theeccentric03,

Thanks for reaching out here. Can you confirm that the correct key was removed from your Keychain?

If it has, it’s worth trying to restart your Mac to see if that helps.

If restarting doesn’t help, please check dayone.me to verify all your content has been synced.

If you can verify it’s all been synced, you could try to uninstall and then install the app again. This should also help.

Please make sure you follow the steps in the guide below when doing that.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately this still hasn’t resolved the issue. The correct key (the one described in the guideline) isn’t present on my Keychain so there is not way to delete it. I also tried the steps described above including reinstalling and it has not worked.

Is there no way to use a Forgot Password option to reset the password protecting the journal? I don’t understand how I can use my Touch ID print to unlock the journal but the physical password can’t be modified unless the password itself is entered. There should be a way to reset it somehow.

  • Hi! When reinstalling, did you follow the steps in the guide my colleague shared above, particularly about moving the data folder?

If not, please try reinstalling the app again. However, this time, please carefully follow the instructions in this guide instead:
