New formatting and changes to media limits

Any chance of new formatting being added soon? Eg underlines, different coloured highlighting, etc

Also, is there any chance the limit of 30 media per entry will be increased?

Those features aren’t on the road map for immediate release, but I can let the team know you’d love to see them soon.

I can understand why you might want more formatting options to detail your entries. That’s a really popular request we get for personalizing your content.

Can you share any more info on how the media limit is getting in your way? I’d like for our team to understand exactly why this limit has frustrated you enough to reach out and ask for an improvement.

This reminds me of the inquiry that I just posted. I like to color code my notes and my work. It would be great to have that option!

  • @jrfr9wg76g We got this requested for you.

Hi – new premium user and loving the app! I agree that more formatting options are needed.

It seems like the Bold/Italic/Underline format is almost universal everywhere. Adding the Underline option to the formatting options (or at least implementing it in the markdown syntax)

    Thank you!

Thanks, @plleonard54ee2bf3fe67. We’ve added your vote!

It is difficult to understand why all of the basic formatting options, including underlining, would not be included already. I cannot think of any other texting or typing app that does not include such basic text formatting feathers. PLEASE add the normal text formatting options soon. The lack of them is, in my opinion, one of the things that is preventing Day One from being the “perfect” journaling app.

@pastorwynn we do offer some basic formatting options you can see here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/tips-and-tutorials/editing-and-formatting-entries-in-day-one-for-ios/ Please let me know if you have any questions.

We know you have some basic formatting options. What we’ve been asking, for a long time, is that you add more of the basic formatting options (i.e. underlines, highlighting, text colors, etc.). This seems like a minor change as it’s available almost everywhere text is entered.

    Thank you

  • We’ll forward your request over to the team for future consideration.

    I’m wondering about this constantly.

I guess I understand the intention to make everything look clean. Cool. But not being able to use different font for titles and bodies within your entries (i.e. sans serif for titles and serif for bodies), not being able to underline text or change the titles’ color… It’s a bit too much. I love the App, but it really feels too restricted on the formatting aspect. So, pushing this topic up.

Any news? Did you considered the matter?
I think all Day One users will be more than happy to have it.

Thank you very much in advance.

  • Hi @negr0re!

We appreciate your feedback and I can confirm that it has been relayed to our team.

Features like this depend on how many requests we get for it, so if more users make a request for it on this thread (or via email), it will increase its chances of being implemented.

I’ve been using DayOne for a year and I don’t know how I just realized you can’t underline! That’s crazy to me. The most basic formatting -how can you have bold and italics but not underlining.

I also agree with other requests here like different colors for text and highlighting.

I guess I didn’t notice because I havent’ been using it enough, I’m trying to start journaling more. It’s not a dealbreaker, DayOne has so many great benefits. But this seems like a basic one that was ignored.

Thanks for your thoughts on this @msjamie. I’ve shared them with the team for further consideration.

I’ve been really loving DayOne. Been a customer for 12 years. UX is good, UI is ok-ish (it surely isn’t “Paper”(53) level). Membership is cheap. But I’m growing more and more frustrated by the lack of text formatting options and having to deal with a Markdown logic which i don’t care about.

Also, I felt annoyed by the latest feature release: multiple journals? really? where the only perceivable difference is the icon of a journal instead of of a checkbox? I had journals since a while, what am i missing?

I bought “Journey” which is cross platform and has a catchy UI and decent text formatting options, but any other aspect of the experience is a misery (useless Mac app, crippled web and iPad app, etc.).

Is there anything else out there worth trying?

  • Hi @oculusquestch – Thanks for your feedback. I’ve passed this on to our team.

Could you clarify what’s annoying about the multiple journals feature? Previously only Premium subscribers could create multiple journals, but we recently made that available to all users for free. Is there something annoying about the feature itself, or did I misunderstand your feedback? Thanks!

Hi , thanks for the reply re the text formatting options. Hopefully something can be done about it. It is a limiting factor imo, especially with creative writing. It’d be nice if Dayone could keep the edge over Apple Journal and their cross-device forthcoming releases. Ps. Nothing is annoying regarding multiple journals. I’m a premium subscriber since 12 years and while I endorse the release of some features free to all users, it would be good to also have new ones for premium users . thank you

  • Hi @oculusquestch,

Thank you for your explanation — I appreciate it!

In case you missed it, we’ve added Underline and Strike-through in formatting options in recent releases. You can view our current up-to-date options in our guides:
