New feature: reading mode/layout

I am at 5,743 entries, with 52,140 pix/videos, going back 17 years. Can you add an easier way to ‘read’ through the days in a nicer format? It seems so weird that 80% of the screen is blank with a big plus mark, and my content squished to the left side. Wishing for a way to peruse through the days and pix in an elegant way.

  • Hi @douglasgrayce04b2785d,

Just so we’re on the same page, would you share some more details on how you’re accessing your entries?

    • Which platform are you using the Day One app on? macOS, iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows, or Web?
    • Which Journal view are you using? List, Calendar, Media, or Map?
    • Which version of the Day One app are you on? The latest current version is v.2025.24.1.
    • If possible, would you share a screenshot of the screen so we can see what you’re describing? You can create screenshots as shown here and post the link in a reply here.

Since you have a lot of media, using the Media journal view may be best suited for your use case.

Thanks for the reply! I use DayOne on iphone, ipad and Mac. I primarily use List and Calendar views. I do 1 entry each day with text and pictures (usually 5-20). With 150+ pix a week going in, media view is just the past few days of images really.

I would be current version on all platforms.

It’s a view for reading your life (probably ipad based for best screen use) to allow the user to scroll thru like a diary of their days, seeing the text and the days autosized pix filling the screen. A day a page kind of thing.

DayOne is awesome at helping us capture our days and put entries in. But now that I’ve got 16 years of daily entries in, I’d love an enjoyable way of <easily> scrolling thru the days.

    Hope that makes sense.

    thank you! D

And here is what reading looks like on the ipad. So much blank space when scrolling thru the days.

  • Hello @douglasgrayce04b2785d!

You can use either the trackpad if you’re using a Magic Keyboard or your finger to adjust the width of that timeline. Just tap or click and drag the line that separates the entries from the blank space. You can then adjust the size of that panel.

Give that a shot and let us know if that helps.

Thanks for the reply team. On ipad, the screen looks like this, with no way to adjust by dragging that line. Just seems akward use of the screen when trying to scroll thru days. Make sense?

  • Hi @douglasgrayce04b2785d,

Thank you for sharing the screenshot; I see what you mean. It seems like a new issue that was introduced with recent changes in the app layout.

We’ve created a ticket for our development team to review the iPad display issue. They’re now looking into the cause and will work on a fix in an upcoming app update.
