MacOs app not syncing

Since updating the app today to v 2025.6 sync to iCloud seems to be broken. I’m only seeing entries from 2018 and older. Anyone else have this problem? I’ve tried everything from logging out of iCloud and logging in again, restarted DayOne several times, forced syncs, stopped syncing and resumed it, etc. but to no avail. My iOs DayOne app is showing all my recent entries.

There’s a thread with a problem similar to yours (not exactly the same). Their problem was resolved by restarting the computer, not just the Day One app. Have you tried that.

(The other thread said the problem resolved but gave no explanation why the problem occurred in the first place. And the suggestion to restart the computer was given by an Apple support engineer.)

Thank you for your answer, and worth the try. I restarted my Mac twice (closed the DayOne app first the second time) but unfortunately this didn’t help. I’ve also written a new entry on the Mac version, but it’s also not syncing to my Day One on iOs. The sync just doesn’t seem to be doing anything… and turning it on and off, etc. doesn’t seem to change anything or force a sync to start.

Anyone have any more ideas? The only other thing I can think of is re-installing the app on my Mac. I can see all my entries online and on my iPhone so I’m kind of OK with that as my entries all seem to be stored somewhere.

Hmm. The fact that you’re only seeing journal entries earlier than 2018 and nothing between 2018 and now is significant. Also, any new entries you create on the Mac are still visible when you restart the app. How do we interpret it, though?

When you synch, does it actually synch? No error message? What is the last synch date? To see that, choose:

Day One > Settings > Sync

On that sheet it should show either a date/time for the last synch or an error.

Another situation where two devices synch differently is when the two devices are signed in to Day One with different accounts. For example, one is signed in with email on one and through Apple on the other. You can see the account you’re logged in with by choosing the same dialog sheet as above. The left section has the information for the account being used: user name, email, user ID, and whether it’s Apple connected.

Look at that information on the Mac and compare it with the same information on the iOS device.

Thank you for your reply. I finally resolved what the problem was: after the new version for MacOs became available, I logged in to DayOne with my Apple account, but it seems I had to log in with a DayOne account I made (I think before the option was available of logging in through Apple). Why diaries from 2018 were being shown I don’t understand, maybe that was the moment logging in through Apple became available?

Anyways, problem solved. Thank you all for your responses.

  • @remcohorchner Thanks for confirming the issue is resolved, and thanks for your assistance @stevekoterski
