MacOS app freezes on launch (unresponsive)

    Once DayOne (v2024.3 // Sonoma 14.3) opens, it freezes immediately and does not respond. I have to force quit. Happens every time I open the app. I even deleted the app and redownloaded it. Same result.

    This problem began after I added a handful of videos to an entry via MacOS. I dragged and dropped the videos from Finder into the entry. It immediately froze and became unresponsive. Every time I try to open the app it opens to this specific entry.

    I’m unable to reproduce the issue on my end, so I’d like to gather more details from you. In my case, I am also on DayOne (v2024.3 // Sonoma 14.3), added four videos to MacOS DayOne app by dragging them from a finder window to DayOne journal entry, one at a time. Each video is about 1-2 minutes long.

    • How many videos did you add to the journal entry?
    • How long were each video? Do you remember how big each file size was?

    In the meantime, would you try accessing the web app and see if you can access your journal entries, including the entry with videos added?

    I dragged and dropped 8 videos at the same time, varying length from 30 secs to 2 mins. The files were 4k so probably substantial in size.

    Viewing the entry on the Web app shows 4 of the 8 videos uploaded but the other 4 just show a thumbnail still image of the video.

    Unsure if this will help but, this happened to me before (similar scenario with multiple videos imported) and I was able to delete a specific file in the Library file structure and it fixed it, possibly resetting the app in some way. I couldn’t find the solution online again while searching.

  • If you drag the four others over to the entry again, do you notice the same thing happen, or are you able to view them?

    the DayOne MacOS app freezes as soon as I open the app. I cannot do anything before it freezes.
